H-1B / US visa data

No confidently matched HDFC Bank Limited LCA/H-1B salary record was found in reviewed FY25/FY26 US Department of Labor files and named salary-aggregator searches. Employer-name ambiguity with HDFC group entities and vendors is a material risk; this means “not verified”, not zero filings or zero US employees.

United States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, continental Europe, Saudi Arabia and South Africa figures anywhere in the source research are comparator-market scenarios; no direct HDFC Bank employee office was verified there in the reviewed official presence disclosure.

Plan H underwater, legacy plans in the money

At the ₹734.3 reference share price, Plan H options struck at ₹838.65–₹966.50 carried zero intrinsic value, while ₹1-strike RSUs retained roughly ₹733 per unit and inherited eHDFC options struck as low as ₹80.40 remained deep in the money. Realised equity value therefore varies sharply by grant vintage.

Key Nuances & Insights

01The E/D/C ladder is reconstructed, not published

HDFC Bank does not publish a complete grade dictionary or salary grid. The E0–MD ladder is an analytical reconstruction anchored to disclosed medians, crowdsourced observations and the official equity cut-overs.

02Equity has a hard cut-over

E3–D3 may receive selective ₹1-strike RSUs; D4 and above are ESOP-eligible; “Top Management” starts at EVP. Eligibility is not entitlement — most employees below D4 receive no stock.

03Plan H options were underwater at the reference price

The ₹734.30 reference share price sat below Plan H exercise prices of ₹838.65–₹966.50, producing zero current intrinsic value, while ₹1-strike RSUs retained ~₹733 of intrinsic value per unit.

04Merger inheritance still pays

Legacy eHDFC options struck at ₹80.40–₹767.64 can be significantly in the money even while newer Plan H options are underwater.

05Executive pay needs two lenses

Current-year remuneration (CEO ₹15.13Cr) and MGT-7 realised remuneration (₹28.65Cr) differ because realised pay includes taxable value from exercising prior option grants.

06Senior variable pay is regulated

RBI rules cap variable at 300% of fixed, force at least 50%/67% non-cash, defer at least 60% over three-plus years and attach malus/clawback — a structure ordinary corporate roles do not face.

07A single company-wide average is misleading

Large non-supervisory and sales populations (median ₹4.3–5.1 lakh) sit alongside senior-management medians above ₹1.2 crore; band- and function-level filtering is essential.

08Gender medians are transparent but not conclusive

HDFC publishes gender-disaggregated medians (women ahead in senior and middle management, behind in non-supervisory roles). Medians alone cannot establish equal pay for equal work without grade, role and tenure controls.
