How Equinix Pays
Equinix's public T1 to T8 technical and M1 to M5 management ladder priced across 30 markets on a Dallas anchor, with 2020 Plan RSUs and performance units, a 15 percent ESPP at 85 percent lower-of, a $22.65M CEO package at 178:1, and 104 FY2025 H-1B filings at a $136,000 median.
Band Hierarchy
Equinix publishes no global grade chart, no grade-to-title crosswalk and no salary range outside the United States pay-transparency postings. What is public is a consistent title taxonomy visible on salary platforms: T1 to T8 for technical individual contributors, M1 to M5 for managers and E1 to E2 for vice presidents. This report treats that taxonomy as a market-facing band model, not as confirmed internal HR grades.

Hierarchy qualifications and legacy structures
- The T, M and E band codes are a public salary-platform taxonomy. Equinix has never confirmed them as internal HR grades and no complete internal grade-to-title crosswalk was found in any filing or careers page.
- O0, C1 and CEO are analyst extensions rather than platform bands. O0 groups the apprenticeship, internship and graduate programmes that Equinix advertises without pay; C1 and CEO are Securities and Exchange Commission reporting roles rather than ladder rungs.
- Equinix has grown by acquisition but publishes no legacy grade structure and no harmonisation matrix. Any inherited grade conversion is an internal matter and is reported here as not publicly disclosed.
- Time in level is not published anywhere. The experience windows on each band are analyst interpretations of the roles that carry each title, not promotion eligibility rules, and there is no disclosed promotion increase percentage.
- Two large job families sit outside this ladder. Data-centre shift roles may carry differentials that no public Equinix table quantifies, and account executives can carry commission that dominates base, which is why reported Sydney senior account executive pay spans A$158,000 to A$287,000 on a small sample.
- The vice president line is the only structural threshold Equinix itself discloses, because the annual incentive strategic modifier applies from vice president upward and to nobody below it.
Peer-level mapping
| Band | Archetype | Peer mapping | Caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| O0 | Apprentice / Intern / Trainee | Digital Realty and Iron Mountain technician apprenticeships; large-tech intern programmes | Equinix runs a named UK critical-facilities apprenticeship but publishes no stipend or salary for it, so this row is an envelope rather than an observation.Midpoint of the modelled Dallas early-career base envelope of $42,000 to $70,000; no routine grant and no incentive target evidenced. |
| T1 | Associate Engineer | Roughly L3 at large-tech peers; entry critical-facilities technician at Digital Realty | IBX technician work is shift-based and may carry differentials that no public Equinix table quantifies, so a like-for-like large-tech comparison understates hours worked.Midpoint of the modelled Dallas base envelope of $72,000 to $105,000; no routine restricted stock unit grant is evidenced at this level. |
| T2 | Senior Associate Engineer | Roughly L4 at large-tech peers; mid-level engineer at Digital Realty or Crown Castle | This is the most junior level where public packages show stock, but the grant is selective and no minimum eligible grade is published.Directly observed United States median with a full component split: $119,500 base, $15,000 stock and $8,990 bonus. Warsaw reports zł259,000 and Toronto C$137,000 at the same level. |
| T3 | Staff Engineer | Roughly L5 at large-tech peers; senior engineer at Digital Realty | Staff Engineer, Product Software appears repeatedly in Redwood City visa records at $155,605 base, which is above the Dallas anchor and reflects the headquarters premium rather than the level.Directly observed United States median of $205,271 split $147,292 base, $42,375 stock and $15,604 bonus. Bangalore reports ₹5,510,000 and Toronto C$180,000 at the same level. |
| T4 | Senior Staff Engineer | Roughly L6 at large-tech peers; lead architect at a hyperscale operator | Bonus is the fastest-moving component here, roughly doubling from T3, which is a mix effect from sales-adjacent and solution-architecture roles rather than a published target increase.Directly observed United States median of $266,277 split $178,000 base, $57,458 stock and $30,819 bonus. Bangalore reports ₹8,250,000 and Warsaw zł466,000 at the same level. |
| T5 | Principal Engineer | Roughly L7 at large-tech peers; principal engineer at Digital Realty | Principal Engineer, Product Software carries a $206,315 Redwood City visa base, close to the observed United States median base, which suggests the reported median is already headquarters-weighted.Directly observed United States median of $362,905 split $230,238 base, $86,000 stock and $46,667 bonus. |
| T6 | Senior Principal Engineer | Roughly L8 at large-tech peers; distinguished-adjacent at a hyperscale operator | The reported T6 median of $303,000 sits below the reported T5 median, which is a small-sample artefact. This row uses the modelled envelope instead and should not be read as a hierarchy inversion.Modelled Dallas midpoint. A Senior Principal Product Manager visa record in Redwood City sits at $198,000 base, consistent with the modelled band after the headquarters premium. |
| T7 | Fellow | Roughly L9 at large-tech peers; no direct REIT equivalent is published | No public Equinix salary sample was found at this level. The row is a peer-normalised model and the widest uncertainty band in the ladder.Modelled Dallas midpoint from the public title ladder and peer normalisation; no observed Equinix package at this level. |
| T8 | Senior Fellow | Enterprise-wide technical authority; overlaps senior director total compensation | The top of the technical ladder overlaps the M5 senior director band in total compensation, so a move across tracks at this level is not automatically a pay event.Modelled Dallas midpoint; no public Equinix sample exists for this band and the equity share is the dominant modelled component. |
| M1 | Supervisor | Front-line data-centre supervisor at Digital Realty or Iron Mountain | Front-line operations supervision pays close to T2 and below T3, so the first management step at Equinix is not a pay step. No routine stock grant is evidenced.Modelled Dallas midpoint of a $75,000 to $110,000 base envelope drawn from the public manager ladder and operations postings. |
| M2 | Manager | People manager at a REIT peer; roughly M1 at large-tech peers | Reported Manager pay in Frankfurt spans €81,000 to €123,000 and in India ₹2,400,000 to ₹5,400,000, so the title covers very different scopes by country and function.Modelled Dallas midpoint of a $105,000 to $155,000 base envelope; selective restricted stock unit participation is reported but not guaranteed. |
| M3 | Senior Manager | Senior manager at a REIT peer; roughly M2 at large-tech peers | Bonus at this level is the highest share of base anywhere below vice president in the observed data, at roughly 23 percent, which is above the modelled 20 percent target.Directly observed United States median of $333,562 split $224,000 base, $58,500 stock and $51,062 bonus. London reports £91,000 to £134,000 for the same title. |
| M4 | Director | Director at Digital Realty, Crown Castle or American Tower | Official United States director postings state that the role may be eligible for equity without naming a value, so the equity figure here is inferred from reported total-compensation mixes.Modelled Dallas midpoint of a $200,000 to $300,000 posted base envelope; total is rebuilt from base plus target incentive plus modelled annualised grant. |
| M5 | Senior Director | Senior director or managing director at a REIT peer | This is the highest band with a directly posted Equinix range on both sides of the city premium: $200,000 to $300,000 in Dallas against $240,000 to $360,000 in Redwood City for the same requisition.Official Dallas senior-director base posting of $200,000 to $300,000 sets the base envelope; a New York visa record for Senior Director, Corporate Strategy sits at $246,000. |
| E1 | Vice President | Vice president at a REIT peer; the first level inside the executive incentive overlay | This is the threshold that matters most in the incentive design: the strategic modifier applies from vice president upward and to nobody below it. Base is official, total is modelled.Official Vice President, Public Policy posting discloses a $272,000 to $408,000 base range for Redwood City and Washington DC; equity and incentive are modelled around it. |
Critical evidence warning
Everything below the vice president tier on this page is either a third-party observation or a model built on one. Equinix files pay-transparency ranges for United States postings and audited packages for named executives, and publishes nothing in between. Six of the fifteen bands here carry a directly observed United States median with a full base, stock and bonus split; the other nine are midpoints of envelopes calibrated to posted base ranges, labour condition application wages and employee submissions. Sample sizes on the platform medians are small and unevenly distributed, which is visible in the data itself: the reported senior principal engineer median sits below the reported principal engineer median, an inversion that is a sampling artefact rather than a pay structure. Treat any single cell as a planning envelope, not as an offer.

Auckland, Osaka and Brisbane appear in the source bundle but are omitted here. Auckland was carried only as a requested New Zealand comparator and the bundle itself records that no verified Equinix employment hub or owned data centre was established there. Osaka and Brisbane are pure derivatives of Tokyo and Sydney with no independent salary evidence. Dubai is retained despite equally sparse pay evidence because Equinix operates three named IBX campuses there.
Dallas anchor medians — the basis of every modeled cell

- Dallas is the anchor rather than the headquarters. Redwood City is the headquarters and prices 20 percent above Dallas, but Dallas carries far more disclosed evidence: official base ranges on repeated requisitions, a $127,878 labour condition application median with a $93,434 lower quartile and a $155,000 upper quartile, and Frisco records spanning machine learning engineer to principal domain architect.
- The headquarters premium is measured, not assumed. The same GTM Engineer requisition posts at $136,000 to $204,000 in Dallas and $163,000 to $245,000 in Redwood City, and the same Senior Director, Deal Strategy role at $200,000 to $300,000 against $240,000 to $360,000. Both pairs land within a point of a 20 percent premium.
- Denver is priced at parity with Dallas because several official postings carry an identical range, and New York at 1.10 because official postings consistently place it above Dallas and below Redwood City. Chicago, Atlanta and Ashburn are modelled around that spine.
- City-level headcount is disclosed nowhere. The presence column records what kind of evidence exists for each market, which is an office directory entry, an official careers page, a disclosed posting range or a set of third-party salary records, and never an employee count.
Model rules
- The bundle applies one calibration factor per city to base, bonus and equity alike, so base and total factors are identical in every market. This report keeps them identical rather than manufacturing a total factor that would drift toward parity purely because a United States equity range had been pasted into every country.
- Level-dependent compression is applied only where the bundle's own observations support it. India is the sole case: reported Bangalore staff engineer total compensation is about 28 percent of the United States staff engineer median while senior staff engineer is about 32 percent, so the three Indian cities interpolate upward with seniority. Every other market uses a flat factor because no level-varying observation exists for it.
- Total compensation on every band row is rebuilt from base plus target incentive plus annualised grant value. No employer benefit load, superannuation, provident fund or social-security contribution is included anywhere in a total, because those are employer costs rather than pay.
- Named executive compensation is not localised at all. The bundle converts audited officer pay into local currency without rescaling it, and this report goes further by keeping the senior vice president, C-suite and chief executive rows out of the band ladder entirely so that no city factor is ever applied to a worldwide officer package.
- Exchange rates are a single snapshot dated 26 August 2026, with Canadian dollar, Hong Kong dollar and Brazilian real taken from the 21 August Federal Reserve H.10 release. They are a reporting convenience, not payroll rates, and currency movement alone can move a local-currency cell by several percent.
Variable Pay & Annual Cash Incentive
One company-wide annual incentive on two equally weighted corporate financial measures, revenue and adjusted funds from operations per share, plus a strategic modifier that applies only to vice presidents and above. Equinix publishes the plan design and the company result in full, and publishes no target percentage for any level below vice president.
| Band | Target | Mechanism | Recent payout |
|---|---|---|---|
O0 Apprentice / Intern / Trainee | None assumed | Early-career programme participants are not evidenced as annual incentive participants in any public source. | Not publicly disclosed |
T1 Associate Engineer | 5% of base (modelled) | Annual incentive certified after year end; the below-vice-president target formula is not published. | 101% financial factor for FY2025, before the vice-president modifier |
T2 Senior Associate Engineer | 7% of base (modelled) | Annual incentive; the observed United States median package carries $8,990 of bonus on $119,500 of base, which is 7.5 percent. | 101% financial factor for FY2025, before the vice-president modifier |
T3 Staff Engineer | 10% of base (modelled) | Annual incentive; the observed median carries $15,604 of bonus on $147,292 of base, which is 10.6 percent. | 101% financial factor for FY2025, before the vice-president modifier |
T4 Senior Staff Engineer | 12% of base (modelled) | Annual incentive; the observed median carries $30,819 of bonus on $178,000 of base, which is 17.3 percent and above the modelled target, most likely a sales-adjacent role mix. | 101% financial factor for FY2025, before the vice-president modifier |
T5 to T6 Principal and Senior Principal Engineer | 15% of base (modelled) | Annual incentive; the observed principal engineer median carries $46,667 of bonus on $230,238 of base, which is 20.3 percent. | 101% financial factor for FY2025, before the vice-president modifier |
T7 to T8 Fellow and Senior Fellow | 20% of base (modelled) | Annual incentive; no public Equinix sample exists at either level, so both target and payout are inferred from the ladder shape. | 101% financial factor for FY2025, before the vice-president modifier |
M1 Supervisor | 8% of base (modelled) | Annual incentive; shift and on-call differentials may apply to operations supervision but no Equinix differential table is public. | 101% financial factor for FY2025, before the vice-president modifier |
M2 Manager | 10% of base (modelled) | Annual incentive; the below-vice-president target formula is not published. | 101% financial factor for FY2025, before the vice-president modifier |
M3 Senior Manager | 20% of base (modelled) | Annual incentive; the observed median carries $51,062 of bonus on $224,000 of base, which is 22.8 percent and the highest observed bonus share below vice president. | 101% financial factor for FY2025, before the vice-president modifier |
M4 Director | 25% of base (modelled) | Annual incentive; official director postings state the role may be eligible for bonus and equity without naming values. | 101% financial factor for FY2025, before the vice-president modifier |
M5 Senior Director | 30% of base (modelled) | Annual incentive; the last band before the executive overlay begins. | 101% financial factor for FY2025, before the vice-president modifier |
E1 Vice President | 50% of base (modelled) | Annual incentive plus the strategic modifier, which the proxy confirms applies from vice president upward and to nobody below it. | 99% of target for FY2025, after the 98% strategic modifier |
E2 Senior Vice President / Executive Vice President | 100% of base | Annual incentive with the strategic modifier; the FY2025 award for named executives was settled in fully vested restricted stock units rather than cash. | 99% of target for FY2025, capped at 132 percent |
C1 Named C-suite Executive | 100% of base | Annual incentive with the strategic modifier; Olivier Leonetti's 2026 chief financial officer terms disclose a 100 percent target worth $700,000. | 99% of target for FY2025, capped at 132 percent |
CEO Chief Executive Officer & President | 200% of base | Annual incentive with the strategic modifier on a $1,000,000 salary, giving a $2,000,000 target. | 99% of target for FY2025, capped at 132 percent |
Executive incentive targets — percent of salary
Named-executive outcomes
| Executive | Target | Paid | Attainment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adaire Fox-Martin | $2,000,000 | $1,980,000 | 99% of target, delivered as fully vested restricted stock units |
| Keith D. Taylor | $748,000 | $740,000 | 99% of target, delivered as fully vested restricted stock units |
| Raouf Abdel | $573,000 | $567,000 | 99% of target on disclosed salary, delivered as restricted stock units |
| Jon Lin | $621,000 | $614,000 | 99% of target on disclosed salary, delivered as restricted stock units |
Employee payout timing and history
The company reports one headline payout of 99 percent for FY2025, 94 percent for FY2024 and 101 percent for FY2023. Because the strategic modifier applies only from vice president upward, the factor reaching an employee below that threshold is the 101 percent financial result rather than the 99 percent headline. Equinix does not publish target percentages by band below vice president, nor whether the below-vice-president award settles in cash or stock, so every below-vice-president target on this page is a model.
Sales and special incentives
No sales commission plan, quota structure, accelerator table or deal-closure bonus is published. The evidence that commission exists at all is indirect and comes from the width of reported sales packages: Sydney senior account executive at A$158,000 to A$287,000, London senior account executive at £139,000 to £179,000, Paris senior account executive at €125,000 to €171,000 and Tokyo account executive at ¥9,000,000 to ¥22,000,000. Those spreads are far wider than any engineering band and should be read as commission variance, not as base-pay uncertainty.
Equity — RSUs, PSUs, Options & ESPP
Equinix is a United States listed real estate investment trust, but it pays its people in ordinary corporate instruments rather than operating-partnership units, profits interests or an India-style employee stock ownership trust. Two plans carry everything: the 2020 Equity Incentive Plan for restricted stock units and performance units, and the 2004 Employee Stock Purchase Plan with its international sub-plans.
- The 4.488 million shares still available under the 2020 Plan are an issuer reserve, not a promised employee pool. Multiplying the reserve by the market price produces a thought experiment rather than an accounting liability or a grant commitment.
- Stockholders added 3.3 million shares to the 2020 Plan reserve on 21 May 2025, which is why the plan reserve is only 24 percent consumed while the older ESPP reserve is 62 percent consumed.
- The ESPP is the only vehicle in the package with a mechanically knowable value. During 2025 employees bought 139,000 shares at a weighted-average price of $679.57, against a reference market price of $1,081.76 in August 2026.
- First-quarter 2026 grant activity gives the clearest single read on scale: 767,481 restricted stock units granted to employees including executives, at a weighted-average grant-date fair value of $952.72 and a weighted-average service period of 3.65 years.
Plan reserves and stock-based compensation at 31 December 2025
Vesting — common reported employee schedule
Executive awards run on a different clock from employee awards. Service restricted stock units granted to executives in 2025 vest one third on each of the first three anniversaries, and the performance units run a three-year performance period rather than a vesting schedule. Olivier Leonetti's $5 million sign-on award follows the same one-third-annually-over-three-years pattern. The weighted-average service period disclosed for first-quarter 2026 employee grants was 3.65 years, which is consistent with a four-year employee schedule and a three-year executive one running side by side.
Eligibility by hierarchy level
- There is no published minimum eligible grade and no standard grant catalogue. Equinix states in United States postings that a role may be eligible for equity, without naming a value.
- Employee-reported packages place restricted stock units well below director level. The lowest band with observed stock is the senior associate engineer level, at roughly $15,000 of annualised value inside a $143,490 package, and no stock appears in reported associate engineer or supervisor packages.
- Equity share of package rises steeply with level in the observed data: about 10 percent of total at senior associate engineer, 21 percent at staff engineer, 24 percent at principal engineer and roughly 95 percent of the chief executive's reported total.
- The ESPP is the broadest vehicle but not a universal one. Participation depends on whether the employee's jurisdiction runs a sub-plan and on local tax rules, and no country-by-country participation list is published.
- Executive long-term awards were split 67 percent performance units and 33 percent service restricted stock units for 2025, a mix Equinix discloses at the grant-cycle level rather than per officer.

Named executive target equity
| Executive | Target | Units / structure |
|---|---|---|
Adaire Fox-Martin CEO and president | $21.0M target long-term incentive for 2025 | Reported stock awards of $21,416,951, which is grant-date accounting value and includes the fully vested restricted stock units settling the annual incentive. |
Olivier Leonetti CFO from 16 March 2026 | $10.0M annual 2026 equity award plus $5.0M of sign-on restricted stock units | Annual award follows the executive service and performance restricted stock unit mix. The sign-on award vests one third on each of the first three anniversaries and sits alongside a $200,000 cash sign-on. |
Keith D. Taylor Former CFO and FY2025 named executive | Within the $6.0M to $9.5M 2025 named-executive long-term incentive target range | Reported stock awards of $9,533,014. His March 2026 Form 4 is the direct evidence that the FY2025 annual incentive was granted as fully vested restricted stock units. |
Raouf Abdel EVP, global operations | Within the $6.0M to $9.5M 2025 named-executive long-term incentive target range | Reported stock awards of $6,584,983 on the 67 percent performance and 33 percent service split. |
Jon Lin Chief business officer | Within the $6.0M to $9.5M 2025 named-executive long-term incentive target range | Reported stock awards of $6,171,543 on the 67 percent performance and 33 percent service split. |
Executive Compensation
Five named executives in the FY2025 Summary Compensation Table. The striking feature is the cash-incentive column: it reads $43 for the chief executive and under $800 for every other officer, because Equinix settled the FY2025 annual incentive in fully vested restricted stock units and the value therefore sits inside the stock-awards column.
Reading the package
Salary is 4.4 percent of the reported chief executive total and stock awards 94.5 percent, with all other compensation at 1.0 percent and the non-equity incentive line effectively zero. The 2025 target long-term incentive was $21.0 million against a $1.0 million salary and a 200 percent target bonus, so the package is designed to be roughly 95 percent equity before any performance outcome. The stock-awards column is grant-date accounting value and not realised proceeds; the performance units inside it settle on a three-year relative total shareholder return and strategic-goal design that can pay well away from target.
Equinix pays its chief executive modestly more than Digital Realty and materially more than the three tower and storage REITs, but the ratio comparison is more informative than the absolute one. Crown Castle reports the lowest ratio of the group at 113:1 despite a comparable chief executive package, because its median employee is $149,323 against Equinix's $126,952 and American Tower's $90,534. The median employee figure is the variable doing the work, and it reflects each company's operations job mix rather than its executive pay philosophy. Cross-company comparison is imperfect in any case, because fiscal years, transition awards, accounting valuations and executive tenure all differ.
Named Executive Officers & Board
Equinix names a broader executive team than it discloses pay for. Chris Audie became chief product officer and Bruce Owen executive vice president of global markets in July 2026, and Charles Meyers remains executive chair after handing the chief executive role to Adaire Fox-Martin.
The most recent complete executive package in the record is not in the proxy at all but in the March 2026 appointment 8-K for Olivier Leonetti as chief financial officer: $700,000 base, a 100 percent target bonus worth $700,000, a $10 million 2026 annual equity award, a $200,000 cash sign-on and $5 million of sign-on restricted stock units vesting one third on each of the first three anniversaries. That single filing is the clearest public statement of what a new C-suite hire is worth at Equinix, and it prices the annual equity award at roughly 14 times base salary.
Board compensation framework
| Element | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Annual board cash retainer | $75,000 | Paid to each non-employee director for board service under the FY2025 disclosed programme. |
| Annual restricted stock unit award | $260,000 grant-date value | Generally vests at the next annual meeting, roughly one year, and settlement may be deferred. Equity is 78 percent of a plain non-employee director's annual retainer package. |
| Lead independent director | $50,000 cash | Additional annual retainer on top of the board retainer. |
| Audit committee chair / member | $35,000 / $15,000 | Annual cash retainers; the highest-paid committee assignment on the board. |
| Talent, culture and compensation chair / member | $25,000 / $12,500 | Annual cash retainers under the FY2025 disclosed programme. |
| Real estate chair / member | $25,000 / $12,500 | Annual cash retainers; the committee was renamed Growth Capital in March 2026. |
| Nominating and governance chair / member | $20,000 / $10,000 rising to $25,000 / $12,500 | The FY2025 rates were increased effective March 2026. |
| Finance chair / member | $12,500 / $5,000 rising to $15,000 / $7,500 | The FY2025 rates were increased effective March 2026. |
| Technology and strategy chair / member | $25,000 / $12,500 | New annual retainers for a committee formed in March 2026. |
| Excess committee-meeting fee, chair / member | $2,000 / $1,500 | Effective March 2026 and payable only once the applicable meeting threshold is passed, which is an unusual disclosure for a board this size. |
| Supplementary annual board-pay threshold | $500,000 | Effective March 2026, board approval is required for total annual board-service pay above this amount. It is supplementary to, not a replacement for, the plan cap. |
| 2020 Plan non-employee director cap | $750,000 | A separate plan limit that may be increased by $200,000 for special-purpose committee work or other special service. |
The March 2026 changes are worth reading closely because they run in two directions at once. Equinix increased the finance and nominating retainers, created a technology and strategy committee with full retainers, and introduced excess-meeting fees, all of which raise director pay; and it simultaneously imposed a $500,000 supplementary threshold requiring board approval above that level, which constrains it. The 2020 Plan's $750,000 statutory cap sits above both and is unaffected.
Regional heads and other officers
Compensation for regional heads and for executives below the named-officer threshold is not publicly disclosed. Equinix identifies global leaders on its leadership page and in appointment releases, but individual pay appears only where a leader is a named executive officer or where a material employment agreement is separately filed. There is no country president or regional managing director pay disclosure anywhere in the record.

Benefits & Perks
Equinix describes global themes on its careers site and files precise United States plan terms in an executive offer letter, and publishes very little in between. Statutory entitlements are shown below as legal floors, never as Equinix enhancements, because in most countries the company has not disclosed whether it pays above them.
United States
- Retirement — 401(k) with automatic enrolment. Automatic enrolment at 6 percent after roughly 30 days in the SEC-filed offer terms, with a company match of $0.50 per dollar on the first 6 percent of pay, giving a maximum employer contribution of 3 percent. [official]
- Retirement — Match vesting. The employer match vests 25 percent per completed year and is fully vested after four years under the disclosed offer terms, so the retirement match and a standard equity grant vest on the same clock. [official]
- Time off — Paid time off accrual. The filed offer discloses accrual of 4.616 hours biweekly, about 120 hours or 15 eight-hour days a year. Employee-facing sources describe up to three weeks for new employees, and the difference is not reconciled publicly. [official]
- Insurance — Health, life, disability and voluntary plans. Referenced in official postings. Carrier names, coverage limits and the employer share of premium are not comprehensively public. [reported]
- Tax-advantaged accounts — Health savings and flexible spending accounts. May be offered depending on the medical plan elected, but no Equinix plan design was located in any public source. [npd]
Global programs
- Health — Medical, wellbeing, employee assistance and life insurance. Described as a global theme with country-specific healthcare and counselling. No single global minimum standard is published. [official]
- Learning — Tuition reimbursement. Publicly referenced as a benefit, but the annual cap, approved-provider rules and country availability are not disclosed anywhere. [official]
- Equity — Employee stock purchase plan. Available in participating jurisdictions at 85 percent of the lower of the offering-start and purchase-date price, with deductions up to 15 percent of cash compensation. Restricted stock unit eligibility is role-selective and has no published floor. [official]
- Time and community — Paid vacation and volunteering. Described globally with local variation in allowances and day counts. [official]
- Flexibility — Hybrid and flexible working. Flexible practices appear in role postings and employee reports, but no universal remote-work entitlement is published, and data-centre operations roles are site-based by nature. [reported]
Benefit fields not publicly quantified
The benefit record is thin outside the United States because Equinix has no country rewards portal. The single most detailed public source is not a benefits page at all but an SEC-filed United States offer letter, which is why the 401(k) match, its four-year vesting and the 4.616 hours biweekly paid-time-off accrual are the only benefit figures on this page carried at that level of precision. For nine of the sixteen countries priced here the honest answer to most benefit questions is that no first-party source discloses it.
Performance Review & Pay Progression
Equinix discloses what goes into a merit decision and nothing about how it is scored. The inputs, the timing and a new-hire eligibility cut-off come from an SEC-filed offer letter; the rating scale, the distribution and the increment table appear in no public source.

What is disclosed is the calendar. The performance period is the prior calendar year, the merit review occurs near the beginning of the following calendar year, and the filed offer applies an eligibility cut-off requiring a start before 1 October to participate in that cycle. The four named merit inputs are company performance, individual performance, the market value of the role and the available merit budget. That last input is the one worth noting: naming the budget as a formal input is an explicit statement that the increase is constrained by funding rather than driven only by rating.
Pay progression evidence
Because no promotion increase is published, the only way to read progression at Equinix is through the ladder itself. On the observed United States medians the steps are large in the middle and flatten at the top: senior associate engineer to staff engineer is a 43 percent step in total compensation, staff to senior staff is 30 percent, senior staff to principal is 36 percent, and principal engineer to the modelled senior principal band is only 7 percent before the sampling anomaly is corrected. The bonus share of base also climbs faster than the target schedule suggests, from 7.5 percent at senior associate engineer to 22.8 percent at senior manager on observed data. There is no separate rating framework for individual contributors and managers in any public source; executive pay is governed instead by the proxy-disclosed annual and long-term incentive measures.
H-1B / LCA Visa Footprint — United States
Equinix sponsors modestly for a 13,700-person company: roughly 100 certified labour condition applications in FY2025 at a $136,000 median. The concentration is in Redwood City product software and Dallas-Frisco corporate systems roles, and every figure here is a base wage that excludes bonus and equity entirely.
Dataset summary
| Dataset | Result | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Ellis, FY2025 | 104 filings at a $136,000 median | Quartiles were not exposed on the retrieved summary page. Treated here as the headline FY2025 view. |
| Alternative FY2025 aggregation | 95 to 113 filings, median $130,395 to $136,000, quartiles $113,000 and $155,000 | The spread between providers is a methodology artefact, not a data revision, and this report preserves it rather than picking one number. |
| H1BData, multi-year | 833 records at a $131,144 median | The page aggregates roughly seven years unless filtered, so it is not a FY2025 view. |
| H1BGrader, FY2026 partial | Approximately $153,000 median with a $200,907 ninetieth percentile | Partial year. Do not compare directly with the FY2025 full-year median. |
| USCIS petition approvals | Not established | The public aggregators report certified and denied labour condition applications, which is a different dataset from petition approvals. No reliable Equinix-specific approval-rate series was found, so none is quoted. |

Selected title / worksite records
| Title | Worksite | Proffered wage | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Principal Engineer, Product Software | Redwood City, CA | $206,315 | The highest engineering base wage in the 2025 record set and consistent with the observed principal engineer median once the headquarters premium is applied. |
| Senior Principal Product Manager | Redwood City, CA | $198,000 | 2025 record; product management prices alongside the senior technical bands at headquarters. |
| Principal Business Systems Analyst | Redwood City, CA | $180,960 | 2025 record; business systems is a substantial sponsored job family at Equinix, not a niche one. |
| Staff Engineer, Product Software | Redwood City, CA | $155,605 | Multiple 2025 records at the same wage, which is what sets the Redwood City city median. |
| Engineer | Dallas, TX | $155,000 | FY2025 record and the top of the Dallas quartile range. |
| Principal Domain Architect | Frisco, TX | $155,000 | 2025 record; Frisco carries the Dallas metro architecture roles. |
| Senior Network Service Delivery Engineer | Redwood City, CA | $139,589 | 2025 record; network service delivery is the operational counterpart to the product-software roles. |
| Manager, IT | Redwood City, CA | $139,000 | 2025 record; a management title priced below several individual-contributor engineering records at the same site. |
| Senior Product Manager | Frisco, TX | $136,136 | 2025 record; the Dallas metro equivalent of the Redwood City product roles, about 30 percent lower. |
| Senior Business Systems Analyst | Dallas, TX | $127,878 | FY2025 record and the figure that sets the Dallas city median. |
| Machine Learning Engineer III | Frisco, TX | $118,000 | 2025 record and the lowest engineering wage in the retrieved set. |
Reading the data correctly
- A labour condition application is a wage and working-condition filing. It is not proof that a petition was approved, that a visa was issued or that anyone started work.
- Every wage here is base salary for the sponsored position. Bonus, restricted stock units and ESPP value are excluded entirely, so a $155,605 staff engineer record sits alongside an observed $205,271 total-compensation median for the same level.
- Provider counts differ by construction. Fiscal-year cut-offs, filing status, amendments and record deduplication all vary, which is why FY2025 appears as anywhere between 95 and 113 filings depending on the source.
- Several city rows rest on a single record. New York at $246,000, Denver at $155,000 and Cumming at $130,707 are individual filings and must not be read as city medians.
- Quartiles were exposed only for the national aggregate and for Dallas. Where a city row shows identical quartile and median values, that is a single figure repeated rather than a computed spread.
Key Nuances & Insights
Equinix is a real estate investment trust, which normally implies operating-partnership units, long-term incentive plan units or profits interests somewhere in the equity stack. Equinix has none of that for employees. The 2020 Equity Incentive Plan grants ordinary restricted stock units and performance units on the listed common share, and the 2004 ESPP buys the same share. The REIT structure shows up in the incentive metric rather than the instrument: adjusted funds from operations per share carries half the weight of the annual incentive, which is a REIT measure that no ordinary technology company would use.
The chief executive's non-equity incentive compensation for FY2025 reads $43, and the other named executives read between $568 and $767. Those are not typographical errors and they are not the bonus. Equinix settled the FY2025 executive annual incentive in fully vested restricted stock units, so the entire bonus sits inside the stock-awards column. A Form 4 filed for the former chief financial officer on 11 March 2026 confirms it directly. Anyone reading the summary table for cash compensation will conclude the executives received almost no bonus, which is exactly wrong.
The annual incentive strategic modifier applies from vice president upward and to nobody below it. That means the FY2025 headline payout of 99 percent is a vice-president-and-above number: it is the 101 percent financial factor multiplied by a 98 percent modifier. An employee below vice president would have been paid on the 101 percent financial result alone. Equinix reports only the 99 percent headline, so the two-percentage-point difference is inferable from the disclosed design rather than stated.
The same GTM Engineer requisition posts at $136,000 to $204,000 in Dallas and $163,000 to $245,000 in Redwood City. The same Senior Director, Deal Strategy role posts at $200,000 to $300,000 against $240,000 to $360,000. Both pairs are within a point of a 20 percent headquarters premium on identical scope, which is a far stronger geographic signal than a third-party cost-of-labour index would give, and it is the reason Denver is priced at parity with Dallas rather than modelled.
The modelled supervisor band sits at roughly $99,400 total against an observed senior associate engineer median of $143,490 and an observed staff engineer median of $205,271. Front-line operations supervision at Equinix is a scope change, not a compensation change, and an IBX technician moving into supervision is likely to be paid below the engineers they coordinate with. The tracks only converge around manager and senior manager.
Observed principal engineer total compensation of $362,905 exceeds the observed senior manager median of $333,562 and approaches the modelled director band. The ladder runs eight rungs to senior fellow, and fellow and senior fellow totals overlap the senior director band. That is unusual for an infrastructure REIT and reflects the product-software organisation Equinix has built around interconnection services rather than the data-centre operations business.
Public salary data shows $303,000 at senior principal engineer against $362,905 at principal engineer. This is a small-sample artefact, not a pay inversion, and it is a useful warning about the whole evidence base: the platform medians that anchor six of the fifteen bands here rest on samples that are neither large nor evenly distributed. This report uses the modelled envelope for that band and says so on the row.
There is no published minimum eligible grade. But the observed data places roughly $15,000 of annualised stock inside a $143,490 senior associate engineer package, which is only the second technical rung, while showing no stock at associate engineer or supervisor. Equity share of total then climbs to 21 percent at staff engineer and 24 percent at principal engineer. Because none of this is policy, a candidate at these levels has no entitlement to point at and should treat the grant as fully negotiable.
A 24-month offering with six-month purchase dates and a price of 85 percent of the lower of the offering-start and purchase-date fair value means the discount is taken against whichever price is lower, so a rising share price compounds the benefit. Employees bought at a weighted-average $679.57 during 2025 against a reference price of $1,081.76 in August 2026. Deductions run up to 15 percent of cash compensation. Availability depends on whether the employee's jurisdiction runs a sub-plan, and no participation rate is published.
Data-centre shift roles may carry differentials that no public Equinix table quantifies, and account executives can carry commission that dominates base. The evidence is in the spreads: Sydney senior account executive at A$158,000 to A$287,000, London senior account executive at £139,000 to £179,000, Tokyo account executive at ¥9,000,000 to ¥22,000,000. Those are commission ranges wearing the clothes of salary ranges, and no engineering band on this page behaves that way.
Observed Bangalore staff engineer total compensation of ₹5,510,000 is about 28 percent of the United States staff engineer median, and senior staff engineer at ₹8,250,000 is about 32 percent. That upward drift with seniority is the only level-varying geographic evidence anywhere in the source bundle, and it is why India is the sole market on this page with interpolated factors. No Equinix policy promising an offshore differential, onsite allowance or India equity floor was found.
Equinix raised the finance and nominating retainers, created a technology and strategy committee with full chair and member retainers, and introduced excess committee-meeting fees of $2,000 and $1,500. At the same time it imposed a $500,000 supplementary threshold above which total annual board-service pay requires board approval. The 2020 Plan's separate $750,000 director cap sits above both and was unchanged.
The 4.488 million shares available under the 2020 Plan at the end of 2025 are an issuer reserve. Multiplying that by a market price produces a headline number with no accounting or contractual meaning. The number that actually describes grant scale is the first-quarter 2026 activity: 767,481 units granted at a weighted-average $952.72 over a weighted-average 3.65-year service period.
The 10-K gives 5,917 Americas, 4,706 EMEA and 3,093 Asia-Pacific and stops. No city headcount appears anywhere. Every hub characterisation on this page is built from office directory entries, official careers pages, disclosed posting ranges and recurring hiring activity, which means a market can look prominent here because Equinix advertises there rather than because many people work there.
Research control
Against its REIT peer set Equinix pays its chief executive the most in absolute terms, at $22.65 million against Digital Realty at $21.07 million, Iron Mountain at $17.05 million, Crown Castle at $16.86 million and American Tower at $14.85 million. On the pay ratio it sits second at 178:1, just above Digital Realty at 174:1 and American Tower at 164:1, and well above Crown Castle at 113:1. The ratio ordering is driven by the median employee rather than by executive pay: Crown Castle's median is $149,323 against Equinix's $126,952 and American Tower's $90,534, which reflects each company's operations job mix. For employee-level pay the relevant comparison is not the REIT set at all but large technology employers, because the T-band product-software roles that dominate the public salary evidence compete against them directly, and the Dallas anchor prices those roles below Bay Area technology medians while Redwood City prices them close.
Evidence classification
| Label | Meaning | Examples and permitted use |
|---|---|---|
| Verified | Equinix filing, official benefit page, government rule or official job posting with a disclosed range | Executive compensation, plan reserves, incentive design, posted United States base ranges, statutory floors and board retainers. |
| Reported | Employee-submitted pay, labour condition application wage or third-party salary record | Six of the fifteen band rows, all city calibration evidence outside the United States and every non-executive equity value. |
| Modeled | Dallas anchor observation times city calibration factor times a single FX snapshot, inside a planning envelope | Nine band rows, every below-vice-president incentive target and every city cell outside the markets with direct observations. |
| Not publicly disclosed | No first-party or reliable third-party source establishes the figure | Rating scale, merit increment, promotion increase, attrition, city headcount and most non-United States benefit terms. |

Known gaps and diligence before relying on a cell
- 1The source bundle applies one calibration factor per city to base, bonus and equity alike, so base and total factors are identical in every market by construction. This report keeps them identical rather than manufacturing a divergent total factor, because a divergence here would come from a United States equity range pasted into every country rather than from geography.
- 2Level-dependent geographic compression is applied only to Bangalore, Mumbai and Chennai. It is the sole pattern the bundle's own observations support, from a Bangalore staff engineer at about 28 percent of the United States median and a senior staff engineer at about 32 percent. Every other market carries a flat factor because no level-varying observation exists for it, and Manila and São Paulo in particular have no level evidence at all.
- 3The senior vice president, named C-suite and chief executive rows are deliberately kept out of the band ladder. They are worldwide officer packages that the bundle itself does not localise, and interpolating a city factor toward them would force every market's factor toward parity at the top and produce absurd offshore executive cells. They appear in the executive and variable-pay sections instead, and the ladder tops out at vice president.
- 4Total compensation on every band row is rebuilt from base plus target incentive plus annualised grant value, so it reconciles to its components. The source bundle carried a separately modelled total envelope that did not always reconcile; where the two differ, the rebuilt figure is used and the bundle envelope is recorded in the row's source note.
- 5No employer benefit load is included in any total. Superannuation, provident fund, Central Provident Fund, Mandatory Provident Fund and social-security contributions are employer costs rather than pay and are shown only in the benefits section as statutory floors.
- 6Auckland, Osaka and Brisbane appear in the bundle and are omitted here. The bundle itself records that no verified Equinix employment hub or owned data centre was established in Auckland, and Osaka and Brisbane are pure derivatives of Tokyo and Sydney with no independent salary evidence.
- 7FY2025 named-executive incentive outcomes shown in the variable-pay section are the disclosed target multiplied by the disclosed 99 percent factor and rounded. They are not separately disclosed amounts, because the award settled in stock and appears inside the stock-awards column.
- 8H-1B provider counts disagree by construction and this report preserves the disagreement rather than picking one number: FY2025 appears as 95 to 113 filings with a median between $130,395 and $136,000 depending on fiscal-year, status and deduplication rules.
- 9Equinix's founding year is not stated in any source in the bundle, so it is omitted from the company header rather than supplied from general knowledge.

Recent News & Workforce Trend
Seven dated events that bear on pay, running from the March 2024 workforce reduction to the July 2026 guidance raise. Equinix has announced no company-wide salary increase, freeze or cut in this window, and the honest description of most of these items is that they change compensation capacity rather than compensation policy.
Headcount has grown 4.3 percent over two years while revenue has grown far faster, which is the shape of an infrastructure business scaling capacity rather than people. The March 2024 reduction of roughly 400 roles did not stop net growth in the same year. No attrition rate is published, so it is not possible to say how much of the 2025 growth was hiring against turnover.
Second-quarter revenue was $2.625 billion and full-year 2026 revenue guidance was raised to $10.205 billion to $10.285 billion. This bears on compensation capacity and on the revenue leg of the annual incentive, which carries 50 percent weight, but it is not a pay announcement.
Chris Audie became chief product officer and Bruce Owen executive vice president of global markets, adding two global leadership roles. Neither appointment carries a disclosed compensation package, because neither is yet a named executive officer.
The chief executive, the EVP of global operations, the chief business officer and the chief legal officer all filed sales on the same date at prices within $6 of each other, identifying a common vesting date. The chief executive's 2,935-share sale was an explicit Rule 10b5-1 tax-funding sale.
The appointment 8-K discloses $700,000 base, a 100 percent target bonus, a $10 million 2026 annual equity award, a $200,000 cash sign-on and $5 million of sign-on restricted stock units vesting one third annually over three years. It is the most complete public statement of a current C-suite package at Equinix.
A Form 4 filed for the former chief financial officer records the FY2025 annual incentive as a grant of fully vested restricted stock units. This is why the non-equity incentive column in the proxy reads $43 for the chief executive and under $800 for the other named officers.
Revenue reached $9.217 billion and the 10-K disclosed $498 million of stock-based compensation, of which $471 million was restricted stock units and $27 million the ESPP, alongside year-end plan reserves of 4.488 million and 2.058 million available shares.
The 2020 Equity Incentive Plan reserve was expanded by 3.3 million shares, which is why 76.1 percent of the plan reserve remained unused at year-end while the older ESPP reserve was 62 percent consumed.
A $10 million restructuring charge was disclosed, primarily for severance and employee costs. No company-wide salary freeze, salary cut or universal increase percentage was identified anywhere in the record.
Approximately 400 roles were reported cut, and the FY2024 results later showed material non-recurring charges including restructuring. Year-end 2024 headcount nonetheless rose to 13,606 from 13,151.
