Band Hierarchy

DoorDash is unusual in publishing its engineering level framework openly: E3 to E7 for individual contributors and M1, M2, D1 and D2 for engineering leadership are official codes with published scope definitions. Everything else, including the entire commercial, operations, analytics and support population, has no public grade code, and VP and above are corporate titles rather than levels.

Technical ladder — E3 through E7

E7
Senior Staff Software EngineerEngineering IC · reported
Senior Staff Software Engineer, the top published individual-contributor code, described as a leader operating at organisation scope.
E6
Staff Software EngineerEngineering IC · variable 1.5% · reported
Staff Software Engineer, described officially as a technical leader operating at team scope who sets direction rather than only executing it.
E5
Senior Software EngineerEngineering IC · variable 0.3% · reported
Senior Software Engineer, described officially as a project owner who leads a project end to end and brings others with them.
E4

Software Engineer at the level DoorDash's framework describes as a problem solver: takes an ambiguous problem, decomposes it and delivers without close supervision.
E3
Software EngineerEngineering IC · variable 3.1% · reported
Software Engineer. DoorDash's own engineering career article describes E3 as a productive coder who delivers well-scoped work reliably.

Engineering management ladder — M1 and M2

M2
Senior Engineering ManagerEngineering management · variable 1.9% · reported
Senior Engineering Manager, officially described as leading roughly three to five teams. DoorDash maps this scope directionally against the Senior Staff individual-contributor level.
M1

Engineering Manager leading a single team. DoorDash's management framework expects an M1 to hold a six to twelve month vision for that team.

Disclosed executive layer

Chief Executive Officer
Tony Xu, co-founder
Fully disclosed in the proxy statement, including salary, the absence of any 2025 stock award, vested-equity value, compensation actually paid and the pay ratio. The 2020 performance award covering 10,379,000 units is disclosed separately.
President and Chief Financial Officer
Prabir Adarkar as President and Chief Operating Officer, Ravi Inukonda as Chief Financial Officer
Named executive officers with full Summary Compensation Table disclosure, 2025 stock awards of $15.26m and $13.22m respectively, and Section 16 filings covering their option exercises and sales.
Functional chiefs
Keith Yandell as Chief Business Officer, Tia Sherringham as General Counsel and Secretary
Named executive officers, at 2025 stock awards of $4.07m and $6.61m. The gap between the largest and smallest named-executive grant is nearly four to one.
Vice President and Senior or Executive Vice President
Functional and regional vice presidents; no individual is named in the reviewed filings
No compensation table exists for this layer. The proxy explicitly does not disclose regional-head, chief technology officer or chief human resources officer compensation.
Co-founder directors
Andy Fang and Stanley Tang
Visible only through Section 16 filings. Their 2026 sales are the largest individual insider transactions in the record, at $13.92m and $7.23m respectively across the reviewed period.
VerifiedOnly the E, M and D codes and the posted salary ranges carry a company source. The pay attached to the E and M codes does not, and everything above D2 is a title tier rather than a level.

Track divergence

E3 to E4
Nothing forks yet, but the pay mix changes sharply. Annualised stock moves from about 15 percent of the E3 package to about 40 percent at E4, and the observed cash bonus falls from 3.1 percent of base to zero.
E5 to E6 or M1
The first real fork. E6 and M1 medians sit within about seven percent of each other on total compensation, so the decision is scope rather than money: E6 leads technically at team scope, M1 owns one team and a six to twelve month vision.
E7 and M2
DoorDash's framework maps Senior Staff against Senior Engineering Manager, but the submitted medians put E7 about 26 percent above M2 on total compensation. Both samples are small enough that this ordering should not be treated as policy.
D1 and above
The tracks converge into leadership. D1 covers roughly five to eight teams and D2 roughly three to five organisations, and above D2 no public code exists at all. The only posted number at this layer is base salary for a Director of Engineering, at $268.6K to $395.0K, with equity mentioned but never quantified.
Business ladder
Runs in parallel with no published codes and is not in the band table, because posted ranges carry no equity and cannot be scaled by a city factor calibrated on equity-bearing packages. The posted United States midpoints are $88.2K base against $126.0K on-target earnings for an Associate in Retail Partnerships, $108.5K for a Senior Associate in Strategy and Operations, $187.0K base against $233.8K on target for a Manager in Account Development, $243.6K for a Director of Strategy and Operations and $315.0K for a Director of Analytics. In British Columbia the same family posts at C$97.2K for an Associate and C$130.5K for an Associate Manager.

Hierarchy qualifications and legacy structures

  • The E and M codes come from two DoorDash engineering blog posts that define scope and impact, not time served, not salary and not headcount. There is no published companywide grade catalogue that covers non-engineering roles.
  • Three job architectures coexist. DoorDash uses E, M and D codes; Wolt, acquired in 2022 and the source of the Helsinki, Berlin and Tokyo evidence, retains its own structure; and Deliveroo, acquired on 2 October 2025, retains a London-centred legacy structure. No public document confirms a mapping between them.
  • The commercial and operations population is mapped by title alone and is deliberately kept out of the band table. Its posted ranges are base salary, sometimes plus on-target commission, and never include an equity value, so scaling them by a city factor calibrated on equity-bearing engineering packages would produce cells where total compensation sits below base. Those ranges are carried in the variable pay and career sections instead.
  • The frontline and support population, including Customer Experience agents and DashMart associates, is deliberately excluded from the band table. No public pay data exists for it, and the SEC median-employee figure of $36,373 suggests it dominates the global headcount.
  • Dashers are independent contractors, not employees. Their earnings, guarantees and incentives sit outside the employment relationship these bands describe and are excluded from every figure on this page, including the median-employee population used for the pay ratio.
  • Executive rows are carried in the executive section rather than the band table, so that no single worldwide chief-executive figure drags the location factors toward parity at the top of the ladder.

Critical evidence warning

DoorDash publishes level definitions but no salary bands, no band minimums or midpoints and no target bonus percentages for any employee level. Every engineering figure on this page is a crowdsourced observation scaled to the San Francisco anchor, and every commercial figure is the midpoint of a live job posting. Neither is a company pay range, the two are not directly comparable with each other because postings exclude equity, and small-sample levels such as E7 and M2 move materially with the DASH share price.

London and Auckland are verified DoorDash-group corporate locations but are absent from this table because no defensible band-by-band pay evidence exists for either. London is primarily the Deliveroo legacy organisation acquired on 2 October 2025, with harmonisation of bands, benefits and equity not publicly disclosed; Auckland is verified through current DoorDash Technologies New Zealand postings that carry no pay ranges. Inventing a factor for either would have been worse than leaving them out.

  • San Francisco is the anchor. The engineering rows are Levels.fyi national medians multiplied by the bundle's own 1.04 San Francisco location factor, so a factor of 1.0 here means San Francisco, not the United States average.
  • The seven United States markets carry a single factor applied to both base and total, because the bundle calibrates them on one city multiplier: San Francisco and New York at 1.04, Sunnyvale 1.05, Seattle 1.01, Los Angeles 0.96, Chicago 0.91 and Phoenix or Tempe 0.86 against the national median.
  • The band table is the engineering and engineering-management ladder only. That is the population the city factors are calibrated on, and mixing the base-only commercial and director postings into it would misstate every non-United States market.
  • India carries separate base and total factors because base compresses far less against the anchor than total compensation does: United States packages carry much larger equity components. The Hyderabad column sits about 15 percent above the India national column on the strength of a Hyderabad E5 city submission.
  • Australia, Canada, Finland, Germany and Japan all show total compensation compressing faster than base as level rises, for the same reason in reverse: the United States equity component grows much faster up the ladder than the local one does.

Model rules

  • Every modelled cell is the San Francisco median multiplied by the location's base or total factor and then by the 26 August 2026 FX snapshot. There is one snapshot for the whole report.
  • A total compensation cell is base plus cash bonus plus annualised stock. No employer benefit load, superannuation, provident fund or payroll tax is added, because that is employer cost rather than pay.
  • Annualised stock is the stock value reported inside a submitted total compensation package. It is not the face value of a new four-year grant, and DoorDash publishes no grant-size schedule for any level.
  • Where a location supplies factors at both ends of the ladder, every band between them is interpolated by seniority. The India, Australia, Canada and Wolt curves are fitted to the two or three levels the bundle actually evidences and then extrapolated conservatively rather than by straight-line projection, which would have produced implausible cells at the ends.
  • Every location's factor pair is checked so that modelled total compensation exceeds modelled base at every level in the table. Where a fitted curve broke that test at the junior end, the total factor was raised until it held, and the residual error against the observed level is recorded in the known gaps.
  • Bangalore, Singapore and Dubai appeared in the research brief but not in verified DoorDash office evidence. Bangalore is retained as an India-market benchmark column and labelled as such; Singapore and Dubai are omitted entirely rather than shown with an invented factor.

Variable Pay & Annual Cash Incentive

There are effectively two variable-pay systems. Engineering runs almost entirely without cash bonus, with equity carrying the variability, while quota-carrying commercial roles disclose on-target earnings in the job posting itself. Named executive officers have had no cash bonus at all since 2021. The commercial and director rows below are the posted United States ranges; they are not in the band table because they carry no equity value and cannot be scaled by a city factor calibrated on equity-bearing packages.

ModeledVerifiedDoorDash pays its named executive officers no annual cash bonus and has not since 2021. Every non-chief-executive named officer earns exactly $350,000 of salary, so the only lever the compensation committee uses is the size of the annual restricted stock unit grant, which ranged from $4.07m to $15.26m in 2025. That makes the grant decision unusually visible: the ratio between the largest and smallest named-executive award is close to four to one on identical salaries.

Employee payout timing and history

No employee bonus formula, weighting, funding gate or payout history is published anywhere in the reviewed record. The percentages shown for engineering levels are what appeared inside submitted total compensation packages, not plan targets, and they do not describe the support, operations or frontline population at all. Spot bonuses and referral awards may exist but no companywide schedule was found.

Sales and special incentives

Commercial roles are the only population with a company-disclosed variable structure, because United States pay-transparency rules force the on-target-earnings range into the posting. The observed uplift runs from about 25 percent at Manager, Account Development to about 43 percent at Associate, Retail Partnerships. Quota levels, commission rates, accelerators, draws and attainment history are not disclosed.

Equity — RSUs, PSUs, Options & ESPP

Equity is the centre of a DoorDash package rather than a supplement to it, and the architecture is four plans deep: a closed 2014 option plan, the active 2020 Equity Incentive Plan, a 2022 inducement plan for qualifying new hires, and an employee stock purchase plan that exists on paper but had no offering period running at 2025 year-end.

  • Total awards outstanding across the approved and inducement plans were 26,449,344 shares at 2025 year-end, against 85,030,374 available. Roughly 9.34m of the outstanding total is the chief executive's single 2020 performance award.
  • Unvested restricted stock units stood at 23.961m shares with an intrinsic value of $5.427bn at the filing's year-end price. That value is price-sensitive and not all of it is near-term realisable.
  • Unrecognised restricted stock unit compensation was $1.900bn at 2025 year-end, expected to be recognised over 2.31 years, and is subject to forfeitures.
  • A large share reserve is legal and accounting capacity, not a promise of individual grant size. Award decisions rest with the compensation committee and the plan administrator under dilution limits and hiring needs.

Four years is the general shape, not a published policy for every award. Submitted employee offers describe several profiles, including even quarterly vesting and front-loaded 40/30/20/10 economics, and those are individual offer reports rather than a corporate schedule. Legacy options under the 2014 plan generally vested over four years with terms of up to ten years, which is why fully vested options from that era are still being exercised in 2026.

Eligibility by hierarchy level

  • There is no published minimum level for equity eligibility. Stock appears in submitted United States E3 packages and in India and Australia E4 and E5 packages, while some Wolt roles carry none.
  • Director-level postings mention an equity opportunity without quantifying it, so the largest component of a director package is the one number DoorDash never publishes.
  • The inducement plan proves that special new-hire equity exists outside the approved pool, but nothing in the record quantifies a systematic lateral-hire premium against internal promotees at the same level.
  • Frontline and support roles have no public equity eligibility rule at all. Eligibility is role, entity, location and offer dependent, and the Wolt and Deliveroo entities have not been shown to be harmonised with DoorDash practice.
  • Non-employee directors receive a $300,000 initial restricted stock unit grant and a $300,000 annual grant from 2026, inside a $750,000 normal annual limit and a $1,000,000 first-year limit.

VerifiedDoorDash has an employee stock purchase plan and 6,499,000 shares reserved for it, but no offering or purchase period was operating at 2025 year-end. In practice that means there is currently no discounted share purchase benefit to value, which is a meaningful difference from peers such as Adobe or Salesforce where a 15 percent discount with a lookback is one of the most predictable parts of the package. If the plan were activated, its discount, lookback and contribution cap would be set by the administrator; none of those terms is currently disclosed.

Executive Compensation

DoorDash executive pay is the clearest case in this corpus of a single number being unreadable on its own. The chief executive's 2025 proxy total was $431,864, but equity that vested for him during the same year was worth about $220.0m and SEC compensation actually paid was about $238.5m. The four measures answer four different questions and must never be added.

Reading the package

Salary was about 69 percent of Tony Xu's reported 2025 total and other compensation the remaining 31 percent, with stock at zero. That mix is meaningless as a description of his economics. The 2020 performance award, granted in an earlier year, covers 10,379,000 units across nine stock-price tranches from $187.60 to $501 and runs to 23 November 2027; 9,341,100 units remained outstanding at 2025 year-end, worth about $2.115bn at the filing's year-end price and about $2.21bn at the $237 reference price used in this report, before performance and service conditions, taxes and market movement.

CEO-to-median-employee ratio
12:1
Median employee $36,373 · The proxy identified a median employee at $36,373 of annual total compensation against a $431,864 chief executive total. Roughly 4,400 employees from four acquired groups were excluded under the SEC acquisition accommodation because their compensation had not yet been harmonised. Dashers are independent contractors and are not part of the employee population at all. The ratio is low for two reasons that pull in opposite directions: no new chief-executive stock award in 2025, and a global employee median weighted toward support and operations roles..

This is a grant-timing table, not a realised-pay ranking. DoorDash and Airbnb look tiny because both chief executives are working through long-term awards granted in earlier years, while Uber, Shopify and Instacart show large 2025 grant-date values. Chris Rogers also became Instacart's chief executive on 15 August 2025, so his figure includes a new appointment award. Read alongside the $220.0m of DoorDash equity that vested in 2025, the ordering reverses entirely.

Named Executive Officers & Board

Five named executive officers appear in the 2025 tables. Every one of them other than the chief executive earns exactly $350,000 of salary and no cash bonus, so the entire pay decision at this layer is the annual stock grant.

The named-executive stock grants for 2025 were $15.26m for Prabir Adarkar, $13.22m for Ravi Inukonda, $6.61m for Tia Sherringham and $4.07m for Keith Yandell, all vesting quarterly over 16 quarters. Vested-equity value during 2025 was separately disclosed at $27.96m for Adarkar, $26.01m for Inukonda and $16.74m for Sherringham, and option-exercise value at $76.74m for Adarkar and $2.05m for Inukonda. Those realisation figures are not part of the Summary Compensation Table and should not be added to the grant values.

The board package is cash-light and equity-heavy: a $60,000 retainer with no meeting fees against a $300,000 annual restricted stock unit grant means roughly 83 percent of an ordinary director's pay is stock. Committee chair premiums are modest by large-cap standards, and the $5,000 nominating and governance premium is the smallest disclosed element of the whole policy.

Regional heads and other officers

Compensation for regional heads, the chief technology officer, the chief human resources officer and every other executive who is not a named executive officer was not individually disclosed in the reviewed filings. Andy Fang and Stanley Tang, co-founders who serve as directors, appear only through Section 16 filings.

Reading guide

Legacy options dominate the exercisesStrike prices of $7.16 and $7.66 date from the pre-initial-public-offering 2014 Stock Option Plan. Current employees receive restricted stock units, not options, so this pattern will not repeat for anyone hired after 2020.
Co-founder directors are the large sellersAndy Fang and Stanley Tang together disposed of 104,364 shares worth about $21.15m in the reviewed period, all as directors rather than as executive officers.
Rule 10b5-1 plans, not discretionary tradesMost transactions reference a pre-arranged trading plan. A 10b5-1 sale is scheduled in advance and should not be read as a same-day investment signal.
Aggregator rows need verificationFour of the eleven rows come from an insider-transaction aggregator rather than a directly reviewed Form 4. Weighted-average prices there can combine several sale lots.
No open-market purchasesThe reviewed record contains no insider purchase of DoorDash stock on the open market, only exercises, sales and one family transfer.

Benefits & Perks

Benefits are better evidenced than pay, because United States postings and the regional careers pages itemise them. What no source provides is the number attached to any of them: no 401(k) match rate, no premium share, no insurer and no leave enhancement above statute outside the United States.

  • EquityRestricted stock units under the 2020 Plan. The one benefit that genuinely crosses entities, though eligibility is role, location and offer dependent and some Wolt roles carry none. [official]
  • Share purchaseNo operating ESPP. The 2020 Employee Stock Purchase Plan is authorised with 6,499,000 reserved shares but had no offering or purchase period running at 2025 year-end, so there is currently no discounted purchase benefit anywhere. [official]

Benefit fields not publicly quantified

The 401(k) and RRSP match rates and vesting schedules, every insurer and employer premium share, the value of the wellness and commuter accounts, all Wolt and Deliveroo benefit terms, and the entire United Kingdom and New Zealand package are not publicly quantified. London operates as a Deliveroo legacy entity following the October 2025 acquisition with no published harmonisation timetable, and the New Zealand careers page describes private health, mental-health support, leave and equity only at a high level. Statutory baselines shown for India and Australia are national law and are not evidence of a DoorDash enhancement.

Performance Review & Pay Progression

DoorDash confirms one fact about performance management and publishes nothing else. Its careers materials state that performance reviews are biannual. There is no published rating scale, no calibration model, no salary-review calendar and no promotion-increase matrix anywhere in the reviewed record.

Not publicly disclosed

The rating scale, its labels and how ratings feed a salary decision are not publicly disclosed.
Whether a bell curve or forced distribution is applied at calibration is not publicly disclosed.
The month in which salary decisions are finalised and the effective date of any increase are not publicly disclosed.
The typical merit increase by rating, by country or in aggregate is not publicly disclosed, and no verified companywide average hike percentage for 2025 or 2026 was found.
The promotion increase percentage and any time-in-band rule are not publicly disclosed; DoorDash's own framework is explicit that levels describe scope, not tenure.
Probation and confirmation terms are country and contract specific and are not published.
Quarterly or trailing-twelve-month attrition is not disclosed, so retention pressure cannot be measured from the outside.
No verified companywide salary freeze or pay cut for 2025 or 2026 was found in the reviewed sources.

Equity timing is the one part of progression with a documented shape: service-based units generally vest over four years and named-executive units in 16 quarterly instalments, and the Australian careers page describes quarterly vesting for employees too. That quarterly cadence matters more than the review calendar, because at senior levels the refresh grant, not the merit increase, is what changes a package.

Pay progression evidence

Directional market inference rather than DoorDash policy: E3 to E4 typically takes one to three years, E4 to E5 two to four years, E5 to E6 or M1 three to five years, E6 to E7 or M2 three to six years, M1 to M2 two to four years and M2 to D1 three to five years, with D1 to D2 a further three to five. E7 has no mandatory next level. The economics of each step are dominated by equity: the submitted median package roughly doubles from E4 to E6 while base rises only about 52 percent, so a promotion at DoorDash is mostly a grant decision.

H-1B / LCA Visa Footprint — United States

Visa filings are the only independent read on DoorDash United States base pay that comes from a government dataset rather than crowdsourced submissions. They are also base wage only, so they exclude the restricted stock units that make up 40 to 67 percent of a mid-to-senior engineering package.

Reading the data correctly

  • A zero in the 25th or 75th percentile column, or in the record count, means the dataset published no value for that worksite. It is not a wage of zero.
  • Labour condition applications and I-129 petitions are different stages with different counts. An application is not a unique employee and does not guarantee that a visa was issued.
  • Proffered wages are base salary only. They exclude restricted stock units, bonus, benefits and relocation, so they understate DoorDash total rewards by a wide margin at every engineering level above E3.
  • The FY2025 figures conflict across datasets: 514 records at a $176,067 median in one and 544 filings at a $207,205 average in another. Both are preserved here because the difference is extraction date, filter and statistic rather than an error.
  • The FY2026 count of 408 filings and the 138-record certified subset are a whole and a part, not two competing totals.
  • Wage-level medians describe prevailing-wage tiers set by the Department of Labor for an occupation and area. They are a floor mechanism, not a DoorDash pay band.

Key Nuances & Insights

01Dashers are not employees and are not in any number on this page

DoorDash's couriers are independent contractors. Their earnings, guarantees, incentives and the minimum-pay frameworks being negotiated in markets such as Australia sit entirely outside the employment relationship these bands describe. They are not in the $36,373 median-employee population used for the pay ratio, not in the 31,400 employee count, and not in any band, location or benefit figure here. Blending courier earnings into corporate pay is the single most common way DoorDash compensation is misread.

02Equity, not bonus, is the variable pay for technical staff

Observed cash bonus runs from 3.1 percent of base at E3 down to zero at E4, E7 and M1. Annualised stock runs the other way, from about 15 percent of the E3 package to about 67 percent at E7. Anyone reading a DoorDash offer as base plus bonus is looking at the small half of the variability, and anyone comparing a DoorDash bonus percentage with a peer's target bonus is comparing two different things.

03The $431,864 chief executive figure is a grant-timing artefact

Tony Xu received no new stock award in 2025, so the Summary Compensation Table shows salary and other compensation only. In the same year, equity that vested for him was worth about $220.0m, option exercises produced about $122.9m, and SEC compensation actually paid was about $238.5m. The 12 to 1 pay ratio derived from the first number is technically correct and economically meaningless.

04A $36,373 median employee tells you what the company actually is

The disclosed median-employee total compensation is far below any band on this page, which is the strongest available evidence that the global headcount is dominated by support, operations and frontline roles rather than by the engineering population that the E and M codes describe. Roughly 4,400 employees from four acquired groups were excluded from that calculation because their pay had not been harmonised.

05Three job architectures coexist and none of them is publicly mapped

DoorDash uses E, M and D codes. Wolt, acquired in 2022 and the source of all Helsinki, Berlin and Tokyo pay evidence, retains its own structure. Deliveroo, acquired on 2 October 2025, retains a London-centred legacy structure. No public document shows a mapping between them, so a global band table is an analytical overlay rather than evidence of completed harmonisation.

06There is no operating employee stock purchase plan

The 2020 ESPP is authorised with 6,499,000 reserved shares, but no offering or purchase period was running at 2025 year-end. Peers where a 15 percent discount with a lookback is a standard part of the package have a benefit DoorDash currently does not, and a candidate comparing offers should not assume an ESPP exists just because one is registered.

07Posted director salaries hide the largest number in the package

A Director of Engineering posting discloses $268.6K to $395.0K of base and states only that an equity opportunity exists. At E7, one level below in scope terms, annualised stock alone is about $636K at the anchor. The disclosed director base is therefore likely to be the minority of the package, and pay-transparency postings systematically understate senior DoorDash roles.

08Function beats title on the business ladder

Two director postings in the same record differ by $71K at the midpoint: Strategy and Operations at $243.6K against Analytics at $315.0K. Both are titled Director and neither carries a grade code. On the commercial side the divide is structural rather than positional, between quota-carrying roles with disclosed on-target earnings and salaried roles with none.

09India is not the engineering delivery centre the brief assumed

Current official DoorDash careers evidence verifies Hyderabad and shows a hiring mix weighted toward Customer Experience, support and strategy or operations. No major Pune or Bangalore corporate footprint was substantiated. Applying the United States engineering bands to the India workforce as a whole would misstate the population badly, even though a Hyderabad E5 submission does exist and sits about 15 percent above the India national median.

10Legacy option strikes explain the insider record

Executives are exercising options at $7.16 and $7.66 and selling at $159 to $214, spreads of 20 to 28 times. Those options come from the 2014 plan, which closed to new grants at the 2020 initial public offering. Nobody hired after 2020 has that instrument, so the apparent pattern of enormous executive gains is a pre-IPO artefact, not a description of current compensation design.

11Named executives have had no cash bonus since 2021

Every non-chief-executive named officer earns exactly $350,000 of salary. The entire pay decision at that layer is the size of the annual restricted stock unit grant, which ranged from $4.07m to $15.26m in 2025 on identical salaries. Few large-cap issuers concentrate executive discretion into a single lever this completely.

12E7 sits above M2 in the data but not in the framework

DoorDash's own management article maps Senior Staff Engineer directionally against Senior Engineering Manager. The submitted medians put E7 total about 26 percent above M2. Both samples are small and stock-price sensitive, so the ordering is more likely a sampling artefact than a statement that DoorDash pays senior individual contributors more than senior managers.

13Biannual reviews reveal nothing about the money

Twice-yearly reviews are confirmed, and that is the entire public record on performance management. No rating scale, calibration model, effective date, merit budget or promotion increase is disclosed. In practice the quarterly equity vest cadence is a more useful calendar than the review cycle.

14A large share reserve is not employee grant capacity

85.030m shares available against 26.449m outstanding produces a 23.7 percent capacity ratio, and a further 21.712m shares were added automatically on 1 January 2026. That is legal and accounting headroom under dilution limits, not a pool earmarked for employees. About 9.34m of the outstanding total is one person's performance award.

Research control

Against Uber, Instacart and Airbnb, DoorDash's distinguishing features are an unusually equity-heavy employee mix, an unusually cash-light executive design and an unusually low headline pay ratio that reflects grant timing rather than restraint. On chief executive pay the 2025 table reads $35.60m for Uber, $35.00m for Shopify, $29.85m for Instacart, $431,864 for DoorDash and $242,100 for Airbnb, but DoorDash and Airbnb are both working through awards granted in earlier years. On employee pay the anchor E5 total of $382.6K sits in the normal range for a large Bay Area consumer-technology employer; what is not normal is that almost none of it is cash bonus and none of it can be topped up through a share purchase plan.

Known gaps and diligence before relying on a cell

  1. 1Executive rows are deliberately absent from the band table. A single worldwide chief-executive or named-officer figure interpolated across locations would force every offshore factor toward parity at the top of the ladder and produce absurd cells, so those figures are carried in the executive section only and the band ladder stops at Director of Engineering.
  2. 2The frontline and support population, including Customer Experience agents and DashMart associates, is excluded from the bands. It moves in the opposite direction to the professional ladder across geographies and has no public pay data at all; the $36,373 disclosed median employee is the only figure that describes it.
  3. 3Dashers are excluded entirely, as independent contractors rather than employees.
  4. 4Only one research bundle exists for DoorDash, so there is no second source to reconcile against. Where the bundle itself carried conflicts they are preserved: FY2025 H-1B volume is 514 records at a $176,067 median in one dataset and 544 filings at a $207,205 average in another, and the chief executive's 2020 award is worth about $2.115bn at the filing's year-end price against about $2.21bn at this report's $237 reference price.
  5. 5The M2 anchor total was rebuilt from its components. The submitted national median was published as $724.0K while base, stock and bonus sum to $723.5K; the components control here so that the row reconciles.
  6. 6The commercial and director postings are excluded from the band table for a structural reason, not a sourcing one. Their disclosed pay is base, sometimes plus on-target commission, with equity unquantified, so their total-to-base ratio is close to one. A city factor pair calibrated on equity-bearing engineering packages carries a total factor well below its base factor in Australia, Japan and the Wolt markets, which would have rendered a Sydney or Tokyo director with a total below their own base. The posted midpoints are therefore carried in the career, variable pay and nuance sections instead, and the band table keeps to the seven engineering and engineering-management levels the factors actually fit.
  7. 7That exclusion costs the report band count. Seven rows is fewer than the ten to eighteen these reports normally carry, and it is a direct consequence of DoorDash publishing level codes for engineering only.
  8. 8No employer benefit load, superannuation, provident fund or payroll tax is included in any total. Several markets in the bundle would look richer if it were, but that is employer cost rather than pay.
  9. 9India, Australia, Canada and the Wolt markets are evidenced at only two or three levels each. Their level-dependent factors are fitted to those observations and then extrapolated conservatively rather than by straight-line projection, which in the India case would have implied a junior total factor near 0.06 and in the Australian case a senior base factor near 0.12. Both would have been artefacts of a two-point sample. The residual misfits worth knowing are the Bangalore E4 total, which the curve puts about 10 percent above the submitted ₹54.00L, the Toronto E4 total, about 18 percent above the submitted C$204.0K because that single Canadian observation sits oddly low against both E3 and E5, and the Berlin engineering-manager total, about 11 percent above the Wolt aggregate.
  10. 10Bangalore is retained as an India-market benchmark column at the India national medians because the research brief asked for it, but no major DoorDash corporate office there was verified. Pune, which the brief also listed, is omitted. Singapore and Dubai are omitted rather than shown with an invented factor.
  11. 11London and Auckland are verified DoorDash-group locations that carry no band-by-band pay evidence and are therefore absent from the location table. London in particular is the Deliveroo legacy organisation, and treating it as a DoorDash market would be wrong on the current record.
  12. 12The 23.7 percent equity figure is a capacity ratio, not a utilisation rate. It cannot be compared with an ESOP utilisation percentage from a company that reports one.

Recent News & Workforce Trend

The events that matter for DoorDash pay in the last year are an acquisition that added a whole legacy organisation, a stock-compensation guidance step-up, and a proxy that quietly disclosed how far from harmonised the enlarged workforce is.

~23,700
2024 employees
Worldwide employees at 31 December 2024, before the Deliveroo transaction closed.
31,400+
2025 employees
Worldwide employees at 31 December 2025 across operations in more than 40 countries. Most of the increase is acquisition-driven, so organic hiring cannot be inferred from it.

DoorDash discloses no city-level or country-level headcount and no attrition rate, so office density and retention pressure cannot be measured from the outside. The 32 percent year-on-year increase should be read as a corporate action rather than a hiring signal: about 4,400 employees from four acquired groups were still outside the harmonised compensation population when the 2026 proxy was filed.

5 Aug 2026
Q2 2026 revenue of $4.454bn on 970m orders

Marketplace gross order value reached $33.078bn with $200m of GAAP net income and $914m of adjusted EBITDA. Scale and profitability context for pay decisions; no salary action was announced alongside it.
