How Discord Pays
Discord's reported L1 to L5 technical ladder, engineering-manager and director layers, RSU-style private equity vesting 25 percent then 6.25 percent quarterly, 14 posted US base ranges from $116K to $450K, and no proxy statement or pay ratio.
Band Hierarchy
Discord has never published a grade catalogue, a job-level handbook, a compensation-band policy, a promotion matrix or a mapping of titles to grades. Levels.fyi displays L1 through L5 for software engineering and one manager label, but those are a third-party reporting convention. Every band code on this page is an analytical cluster built to stop incompatible roles being averaged together, not a Discord HR grade.

Hierarchy qualifications and legacy structures
- Discord publishes no internal level names. L1 through L5 and the manager label are Levels.fyi conventions applied to Discord by a third party, and Discord has never confirmed, adopted or filed them.
- The company's own history describes an origin in Hammer & Chisel and the 2015 launch of Discord, not a merger. No legacy grade harmonisation, predecessor pay band or post-merger compensation integration exists to reconcile, which is unusual for a company of this age and simplifies the ladder considerably.
- Official postings are the only source that ties a Discord title to a Discord number. Fourteen of them carry a base range, and they are what makes the professional and management rows on this page Verified rather than Reported.
- Levels.fyi's L3 label for Discord is explicitly Senior Software Engineer and its sample carries roughly 7 to 8 years of experience, with roughly 10 to 11 years at L4. Those are sample characteristics, not minimum service requirements for promotion.
- Levels.fyi's engineering-manager page exposes inconsistent summary figures in different page elements. This report uses the visible composition of $273,000 base plus $200,000 stock and no bonus, and treats the wider manager range as low confidence.
- The reported L5 total of $435,000 sits below the reported L4 total of $453,000. Sparse samples, grant timing and private-company valuation can create that inversion; it must not be read as a Discord policy that principal engineers earn less than staff engineers.
Peer-level mapping
| Band | Archetype | Peer mapping | Caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| OPS0 | Customer and Recruiting Operations | Entry coordinator and associate scope at a consumer platform | Glassdoor pools unrelated titles into one range, so this is a role envelope rather than a Discord band, and Discord posts no range for either title.Midpoint of the combined Glassdoor total-pay envelope for Customer Experience Associate at $41,000 to $63,000 and Recruiting Coordinator at $50,000 to $70,000. Glassdoor total pay can mix base, bonus and stock. Equity is shown as zero because no grant is evidenced for these roles, not because none exists. |
| IC1 | Entry-level Software Engineer | Google L3, Meta E3, Amazon SDE I | L1 is a Levels.fyi reporting label, not a Discord grade, and it is the thinnest sample on the technical ladder. The full Levels.fyi L1 stack, which reconciles exactly: $134,402 base plus $14,596 annualized stock plus $4,750 cash bonus equals $153,748. No Discord posting covers an entry engineering level, so this is the one technical row with no official base to check it against. |
| OPS1 | Trust and Safety Specialist | Trust and safety analyst scope at a consumer platform | The widest Glassdoor spread in the operations set, $62,000 to $104,000, which suggests the label covers more than one internal level.Midpoint of the Glassdoor total-pay range of $62,000 to $104,000. Trust and safety is central to Discord's product and its Director of Engineering, Safety posting sits at the top of the ladder, but the specialist layer beneath it carries no Discord-posted range at all. |
| FIN1 | Strategic Finance | Senior financial analyst to finance manager scope | The lowest posted US base range Discord currently runs. Comparing it to an engineering title of similar seniority will mislead, because function moves Discord's cash ranges far more than layer does.Midpoint of Discord's posted $116,000 to $130,500 base range. The posting quotes base salary and does not attach an equity value, so this row is cash only and understates the package by an unknown amount. |
| IC2 | Software Engineer | Google L4, Meta E4, Amazon SDE II | Three separate Discord postings sit inside this band at $160,000 to $180,000, $160,000 to $200,000 and $180,000 to $220,000, so one number cannot represent every team.Base is the midpoint of the official posted software-engineer envelope of $160,000 to $200,000. Equity and bonus are the Levels.fyi L2 components of $51,547 and $1,970, so the total is $233,517. Levels.fyi's own L2 total of $244,792 is higher because it uses a reported base of $191,275 rather than the posted midpoint. |
| RISK | Technology Risk Audit Manager | Internal audit or technology risk manager scope | Carries the word Manager without evidence of a people-management layer, which is why it sits on the professional ladder here rather than the management one.Midpoint of Discord's posted $180,000 to $202,500 base range, which states equity and benefits separately without valuing them. Cash only, and therefore not comparable with the reported technical totals on this page. |
| DSGN | Senior Product Designer | Senior product designer scope, roughly a senior engineering equivalent | Posted design base of $188,000 to $211,500 sits below the $196,000 to $245,000 senior engineering envelope, so design and engineering are not paid at parity at the senior label.Midpoint of Discord's posted $188,000 to $211,500 base range. A separate FY2026 H-1B filing for a Senior Product Designer certified $245,000 of base wage, well above this posted maximum, which shows how far an individual offer can sit from a posted band. |
| SFDC | Senior Salesforce Technical Lead | Senior business systems or platform lead scope | An internal-systems lead, not a product engineer. It is the closest US comparator to the Singapore Solutions Architect posting and is used as the anchor for that market.Midpoint of Discord's posted $192,000 to $216,000 base range. Cash only; the posting adds equity and benefits without a value. |
| IC3 | Senior Software Engineer / Senior Data Engineer | Google L5, Meta E5, Amazon SDE III | The strongest mapping on the page, because Levels.fyi's L3 title for Discord is explicitly Senior Software Engineer and three official senior postings corroborate the base range.Base is the midpoint of the official senior engineering envelope of $196,000 to $245,000. Equity and bonus are the Levels.fyi L3 components of $109,466 and $1,500, giving $331,466. Levels.fyi's own L3 total of $363,718 uses a reported base of $252,800; recent Blind senior submissions span $305,000 to $350,000 total. |
| IC4 | Staff Software Engineer | Google L6, Meta E6, Amazon Principal Engineer entry scope | Overlaps the bottom of the engineering-manager range, so a Staff offer and a manager offer are not separated by layer at Discord. The rare row where official and reported evidence agree exactly: the posted $248,000 to $279,000 Staff range has a midpoint of $263,500, which is also the Levels.fyi L4 base. Adding the reported $179,500 of stock and $10,000 bonus reconciles to the reported L4 total of $453,000. A March 2026 Blind Staff submission in San Francisco showed $300,000 base and $500,000 total. |
| M2 | Engineering Manager | Google M1 to M2, Meta M1, Amazon Software Development Manager | Levels.fyi exposes inconsistent summary figures for this level in different page elements, so treat the composition as directional and the wider range as low confidence.Levels.fyi's visible M3 composition of $273,000 base plus $200,000 stock plus zero bonus equals $473,000. Discord's two posted engineering-manager ranges of $248,000 to $310,000 and $272,000 to $306,000 bracket the base figure. A separate FY2026 H-1B filing certified $300,000 of base wage for an Engineering Manager in San Francisco. |
| IC5 | Principal / Lead Engineer | Google L7, Meta E7 | The sparsest row on the page. Its reported total sits below the Staff level, which is a small-sample and grant-timing artefact rather than a Discord pay policy. The Levels.fyi L5 stack of $310,000 base plus $115,000 stock plus $10,000 bonus equals $435,000. A January 2026 Blind Principal or Lead submission in San Francisco showed $350,000 base, $250,000 annual equity and $600,000 total, which is the ceiling of the employee-reported record. |
| M3 | Senior / Group Engineering Manager | Google M2 to Senior Manager, Meta M2 | No Discord posting names this layer. It is inferred from the gap between the manager envelope and the Director range, and title calibration against peers is uncertain. The source bundle records a $272,000 to $341,000 base envelope for this layer and explicitly declines to publish a median. The $306,500 shown is the midpoint of that stated envelope and is labelled Modeled for that reason. No total compensation and no equity value exists for this layer. |
| M4 | Director of Engineering | Google Director, Meta D1, Amazon Director | A step change rather than an increment: the posted Director base floor of $400,000 sits $90,000 above the top of the posted engineering-manager range.Midpoint of Discord's posted $400,000 to $450,000 base range for Director of Engineering, Safety. The posting confirms equity is included and never values it, so no total compensation figure exists for this row and the cash number understates the package materially. |
Critical evidence warning
Discord is private and publishes no salary band, no band minimum, midpoint or maximum, no promotion matrix, no equity grant table and no compensation calendar. Every band code on this page is an analytical cluster. Rows marked Verified take their base from an official Discord posting, which is a real disclosure but a role range rather than a company band, and they carry no equity value because the postings state that equity exists without pricing it, so their totals are cash only and understate the package. Rows marked Reported take their equity and bonus from employee submissions that Discord has neither confirmed nor filed, and those equity values depend on private-company valuation assumptions that may not reflect grant-date fair value, current 409A value, exercise price, liquidity, taxes or realised proceeds.

Total compensation in San Francisco across the employee bands. Ranges are planning envelopes around the median, not offer bands.
Global Footprint & Pay Arbitrage
San Francisco is the pay anchor and the only market with a full ladder. Discord's postings routinely read San Francisco or Remote (US) and quote one national range, so every United States market on this page carries a factor of 1 rather than a modelled city differential, because no city-by-city Discord salary table exists. Only two other markets carry a pay row at all, and each rests on exactly one posted role.

India, Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan and the United Arab Emirates are deliberately absent from the pay table. Discord's company-information page lists no legal entity in any of them, no office was verified, and no Discord-specific salary observation exists for any of them, so a factor would have to be invented from generic market multipliers rather than Discord evidence. Absence from an impressum is not proof that no worker exists in a country, and Discord may hire there through other arrangements, but it is a sufficient reason not to assert a local band. The statutory floors for those countries are described in the benefits notes and are law rather than Discord policy.

- The San Francisco column is the anchor. Its professional, design and management rows are midpoints of official Discord postings, its technical equity and bonus components come from Levels.fyi United States records that do not distinguish between American cities, and its operations rows are Glassdoor role envelopes.
- Every other United States market carries a factor of exactly 1. Discord's postings state San Francisco or Remote (US) and quote a single national range, and no verified city-by-city salary differential table was found anywhere in the sources. Seattle, New York, Washington and Denver each carry a single 2026 employee submission; Los Altos, Cambridge and Dallas each carry a single historical H-1B worksite record.
- Those single United States observations are consistent with a flat national range rather than a geographic ladder: $245,000 base in Seattle, $245,000 in New York, $238,000 in Washington and $205,000 in Denver, against a posted San Francisco senior envelope of $196,000 to $245,000. The Denver row is the only one materially below the anchor and it is a single submission at a lower level.
- Amsterdam is calibrated from one role. Discord Netherlands B.V. is the only non-US entity Discord publishes, and the single posted Dutch range is a Workplace Operations Program Manager at €62,480 to €70,290, a midpoint of about $77,400. Against Discord's lowest posted US professional range, Strategic Finance at a $123,250 midpoint, that is 0.63, which is the factor applied to the whole Dutch column.
- Singapore is calibrated from one role and it lands close to parity. The posted Solutions Architect range of S$252,000 to S$283,500 has a midpoint of about $210,800, against the closest US comparator, Senior Salesforce Technical Lead at $204,000, and the US senior engineering anchor at $220,500. The factor used is 0.96, which is far higher than a typical Singapore technology discount and should be read as a single senior role rather than a country ladder.
Model rules
- A posted annual figure is treated as base salary. Every Discord posting reviewed states a base range and then adds equity and benefits as separate unpriced items, so no posted number is ever plotted as total compensation.
- Where a band has a full Levels.fyi base, stock and bonus stack, the total is that stack. Where a band has only a posted base, the total equals the base and is cash only, because Discord confirms equity exists at those levels and publishes no grant size. Those rows understate the real package by an unknown amount and must not be compared with the technical totals.
- Where a row mixes an official posted base with a reported equity and bonus component, the source note names both figures and the row is marked Reported. The Levels.fyi total for the same level is quoted alongside so the difference between its reported base and the posted midpoint is visible rather than hidden.
- Total factors are set equal to base factors in the Netherlands and Singapore. Discord publishes no local grant schedule anywhere, so any divergence between a base factor and a total factor abroad would be an artefact of a single United States equity range pasted into another country, not a real geographic effect.
- No notional employer benefit load is added anywhere. A total compensation cell is base plus observed bonus plus reported annualized equity and nothing else. The $375 quarterly wellness stipend, the $1,000 donation match, the $50 monthly internet reimbursement and the reported HSA contribution are benefits, not pay, and are recorded in the benefits section.
Variable Pay & Annual Cash Incentive
Discord publishes no variable-pay architecture at all: no target bonus percentage by level, no payout formula, no scorecard, no payout month and no attainment history for 2024, 2025 or 2026. The percentages below are observed cash bonus as a share of a reported package, not targets, and they must never be inserted into an offer model as guaranteed variable pay. Nine consecutive recent employee submissions across five cities reported no cash bonus at all.
| Band | Target | Mechanism | Recent payout |
|---|---|---|---|
OPS0 / OPS1 Operations coordinator and specialist | Not disclosed | Glassdoor total-pay ranges for these titles may already blend base, bonus and stock, so no separable bonus component can be read from them. | Not publicly disclosed |
FIN1 Strategic Finance | Not disclosed | The posting quotes a base range and lists benefits separately; it names no annual incentive plan and no target percentage. | Not publicly disclosed |
IC1 Entry-level Software Engineer | 3.1% of reported total | Derived as $4,750 of reported cash bonus against a $153,748 reported package. The highest observed bonus share anywhere on the ladder, and it is still smaller than the reported stock component. | Not publicly disclosed |
IC2 Software Engineer | 0.8% of reported total | Derived as $1,970 of reported cash bonus against a $244,792 reported package. The bonus share falls as the stock share rises. | Not publicly disclosed |
IC3 Senior Software Engineer | 0.4% of reported total | Derived as $1,500 against $363,718. The lowest non-zero share on the ladder, and several recent Blind senior submissions report exactly $0. | Not publicly disclosed |
IC4 Staff Software Engineer | 2.2% of reported total | Derived as $10,000 against $453,000. Cash bonus rises in dollars at the staff level while remaining trivial beside $179,500 of reported annualized stock. | Not publicly disclosed |
IC5 Principal / Lead Engineer | 2.3% of reported total | Derived as $10,000 against $435,000, from a sparse sample. A January 2026 Blind principal submission reported $600,000 total with no cash bonus at all. | Not publicly disclosed |
M2 Engineering Manager | 0% of reported total | The visible reported manager package shows $273,000 base, $200,000 stock and no cash bonus. One observation is not a policy that managers have no bonus. | Not publicly disclosed |
M3 / M4 Senior Manager and Director | Not disclosed | No dataset covers cash incentive at these layers. Do not infer a director bonus target from peer-company programmes. | Not publicly disclosed |
VP and above Executive | Not disclosed | No annual incentive plan, target percentage, metric set or payout is published for any Discord executive, because no proxy statement exists. | Not publicly disclosed |
Employee payout timing and history
No company-wide payout announcement was found for 2024, 2025 or 2026, in either direction. There is no verified statement of an 80, 100 or 120 percent payout, no pay freeze, no salary cut and no mid-year market correction. The 12 January 2024 reduction of 170 roles, about 17 percent of the workforce, was a headcount action rather than a reported pay action; the reporting cited fivefold growth since 2020 and a prior 4 percent cut in August 2023, and described no company-wide salary reduction.
Sales and special incentives
The public data is technical-role heavy and should not be generalised to commission-bearing roles. Discord posts sales, partnerships and solutions roles, including the Singapore Solutions Architect range used on this page, but no posting reviewed states that its range is on-target earnings rather than base, and no commission plan, quota, accelerator or draw is published. Anyone evaluating a Discord go-to-market offer should confirm in the offer letter whether the quoted range is base or on-target earnings.
Equity — RSUs, PSUs, Options & ESPP
Discord confirms that equity is part of the package and never prices it. There is no public plan name, no board or shareholder approval date, no authorised pool, no utilisation rate, no grant-price or strike-price formula, no refresh cadence, no liquidity or double-trigger condition and no forfeiture or change-in-control term. Every dollar figure on this page is a paper value derived from employee-submitted annualized stock, not a grant-date fair value and not realisable cash.
- Indian exchange filings are not applicable: Discord is not a listed issuer on BSE or NSE and files nothing with SEBI, so there is no shares-allotted record, no ESOP trust activity and no pool utilisation table.
- No public SEC equity-plan exhibit or registration statement was available at the report date. Reuters reported a confidential United States IPO filing on 6 January 2026, and a confidential submission publishes no exhibits, no share reserve and no stock-based compensation expense.
- Executive option exercises, share sales and grant-level activity are not publicly disclosed for any Discord officer, and Nasdaq Private Market notes that private shareholders may need to transact through the company or an approved private marketplace subject to restrictions.
- The two 2026 private-market price estimates differ by about 8.8 percent. Converting a reported annualized equity figure into a share count using either of them would create false precision, because the employee's grant-date fair value, share class, settlement mechanics, tax treatment, transfer approval and eventual liquidity price are all unknown. This page therefore shows no share counts and carries no share price.
- Annualized reported stock is not the original award's face value. It is one year's slice of a multi-year grant as an employee described it, valued on an assumption the employee did not state, and it can move sharply with a new financing round or a new 409A valuation without any change to the grant itself.
Private-market price marks — context, not a grant price
Vesting — common reported employee schedule
This is the employee-reported schedule, not a Discord plan document: a 25 percent cliff at the first anniversary, then 6.25 percent every quarter through years two, three and four. Discord itself states no vesting schedule in any reviewed official source. For a private company the schedule is only half the question, because a vested unit may still require a liquidity event, a company-approved transfer or a settlement decision before it becomes anything an employee can spend.
Eligibility by hierarchy level
- The lowest level with evidence of equity is the reported entry engineering level, where employee-submitted data includes about $14,600 of annualized stock. That does not prove every employee or every operations role receives equity, and Discord publishes no minimum eligibility band.
- Official postings confirm equity at Software Engineer, Senior Software Engineer, Staff Software Engineer, Engineering Manager and Director of Engineering, and in one Netherlands workplace-operations role. That is the full extent of the eligibility evidence.
- Reported annualized stock by level runs about $14,600 at the entry level, $51,500 at software engineer, $109,500 at senior, $179,500 at staff, $115,000 at the reported principal level and $200,000 at the reported manager level. Equity therefore grows from roughly a tenth of an entry package to about 42 percent of a manager package.
- The Director of Engineering posting confirms equity is included and gives no value, so the Director row on this page carries a zero equity figure that is a disclosure gap rather than a real zero. Vice-president and above is not publicly disclosed in any form.
- No new-hire versus refresh cadence was found, no performance condition, multiplier or PSU metric was found, and no evidence distinguishes a lateral hire's grant from an internal promotee's at the same level.
- No sabbatical-linked, tenure-linked or retention-grant programme is described in any source, and no employee secondary-sale window or tender-offer history is public.

Executive Compensation
Discord, Inc. is privately held and its reported United States registration statement was still confidential at the report date, so no Summary Compensation Table exists. Chief executive salary, bonus, equity, perquisites and total compensation, every other officer package, the board fee schedule, the median employee and the CEO-to-median pay ratio are all not publicly disclosed. This page leaves the executive pay panel empty rather than estimating any of them.
These three rows exist to show the disclosure format a listing would eventually produce for Discord, not to estimate anything. The comparability limits are severe: a single year's equity award can dominate a chief executive total, as the 20-fold spread between Roblox and Zoom shows; fiscal years differ; and each median employee is drawn from a different geographic mix. A peer chart with an invented Discord bar would be worse than an explicit absence, so there is none.
Named Executive Officers & Board
Discord's public leadership record is a list of names and nothing else. The company page identifies the chief executive transition and the co-founder chief technology officer, and the company-information page names the chief legal officer as the authorised representative, but no compensation figure attaches to any of them.
Publicly identified senior leadership comprises Humam Sakhnini as chief executive officer since 28 April 2025, Jason Citron as co-founder, board member and advisor after stepping down as chief executive, Stanislav Vishnevskiy as co-founder and chief technology officer, and Clint Smith as chief legal officer and authorised representative for Discord Inc. No current holder of the chief financial, operating, people or revenue officer roles was established in the reviewed sources, and no regional head for the Americas, EMEA or APAC was identified. Compensation for every one of these roles is not publicly disclosed, and the confidential draft registration statement reported in January 2026 is a submission to the Securities and Exchange Commission rather than a public filing, so it published no tables.
Board compensation framework
| Element | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Board composition | Not fully published | Jason Citron is identified as a board member and advisor following the April 2025 chief executive transition. The full board roster, its committee structure and its independent directors are not published in the reviewed sources. |
| Annual cash retainer | Not publicly disclosed | No director fee schedule exists for a private corporation that files no annual report on director compensation. |
| Meeting and committee fees | Not publicly disclosed | No committee chair retainer, attendance fee, lead-director premium or audit-committee premium is in the public record. |
| Director equity awards | Not publicly disclosed | No annual director grant, vesting term, holding requirement or deferral election is published. |
| Advisor compensation | Not publicly disclosed | Jason Citron's move from chief executive to board member and advisor in April 2025 was announced without any accompanying compensation, transition-payment or equity-treatment disclosure. |
| Say-on-pay and compensation committee report | Not applicable | Both are public-registrant obligations. Discord holds no say-on-pay vote and files no compensation discussion and analysis, so there is no independent commentary on how it sets executive pay. |
Everything above that is not a name is unavailable, and the absence is a disclosure-regime fact rather than evidence that no arrangement exists. Directors of a private venture-backed corporation are commonly compensated in equity, but no Discord document says so and none should be assumed.
Regional heads and other officers
Discord publishes no compensation figure for any officer, no perquisite schedule, no severance or change-in-control arrangement, no deferred compensation record and no pension or retirement benefit for an executive, because a private corporation files no proxy statement and no equivalent of a named-executive table. There is likewise no geographic executive compensation table, so the pay of any country or regional leader is unavailable.
Insider Trades — SEC Forms 3/4/5
There are no insider trades to show. Discord is not a publicly registered and traded issuer, so SEC Forms 3, 4 and 5 do not apply to its officers and directors; it is not an Indian-listed issuer, so the SEBI insider-trading and substantial-acquisition frameworks and promoter-group disclosure are not applicable either. The correct conclusion is not that no executive has ever exercised or sold, but that no public transaction-level filing exists to record it.
Reading guide
Benefits & Perks
Discord publishes one benefits list, on its careers page, and states plainly that it applies to United States full-time employees and that offerings outside the United States vary by location. That makes the United States column the only one with company-stated content; the Netherlands and Singapore rows record what the local postings say and what local law requires, which are different things.
United States
- Retirement — 401(k) with company matching. Discord states that matching exists. The match percentage, the compensation base it applies to, the annual cap and the vesting schedule are not published anywhere. [official]
- Health — Medical, dental, vision, reproductive, gender-affirming and mental healthcare. Stated on the careers page as a single package. Carrier, plan names, premium share, deductibles and coverage tiers are not published. Employee reports add three health plans with premiums described as fully company-paid, and company-paid dental and vision premiums. [official]
- Health savings — Employer HSA contribution reported at $118 or $236 a month. Employee-submitted figures for individual and family coverage respectively. Not confirmed by Discord and not tied to a named plan year, so verify in the offer or plan documents. [reported]
- Family — 12 or more weeks of parental leave with fertility, adoption and surrogacy support. One of the clearest numbers Discord publishes. Employee reports describe 12 weeks for both maternity and paternity and a $20,000 reimbursable fertility and adoption benefit through Carrot. Eligibility, pay replacement rate and benefit caps are not stated officially. [official]
- Time off — Four weeks PTO, 16 paid holidays including a full winter week, flexible sick time. Sick time explicitly includes mental-health days. Accrual, carryover and tenure rules are not published. Employee reports describe 20 PTO days, which is consistent with four weeks on a five-day week, and unlimited or flexible sick time. [official]
- Wellness — $375 quarterly wellness stipend. A nominal $1,500 a year, one of only two dollar figures Discord attaches to any benefit. Eligible expenses and tax treatment are not stated. [official]
- Giving — One to two volunteer days and up to $1,000 of annual donation matching. The second dollar figure Discord publishes. Matching rules and eligible organisations are not stated. [official]
- Insurance — Disability at two-thirds of weekly earnings and life cover at one times salary. Employee-submitted short-term and long-term disability and life insurance terms. Not confirmed by Discord, and elimination periods and maximums are unknown. [reported]
- Remote support — $50 a month of internet reimbursement. Employee-reported, consistent with Discord's official flexible-work statement that work may happen at home, in offices such as the San Francisco headquarters, or in a mix. Employee assistance, flexible spending, relocation and transport are reported as offered without any published detail. [reported]
Global programs
- Flexible work — Home, office or a mix. Discord states that work may happen at home, in offices such as the San Francisco headquarters, or in a combination, subject to role and location. This is the statement that makes the United States postings read San Francisco or Remote (US) and is why every American market on this page shares one pay factor. [official]
- Learning — Leadership programme for all managers, plus employee training. Discord says every manager goes through a leadership programme and that training is offered to employees. No vendor, budget, certification reimbursement, study leave or learning platform is named. [official]
- Equity — Equity included in compensation packages. Stated on the careers page and repeated in postings from Software Engineer through Director and in the Netherlands operations role. No vehicle, grant size, price or term is stated in any of them. [official]
- Rewards philosophy — Rewarded based on contributions and impact. Discord's own language about how pay grows. It establishes no rating scale, no calibration process, no formula and no compensation calendar, and it should not be read as evidence of any of those. [official]
- Location variation — Benefits outside the United States vary by location. An explicit Discord statement rather than an inference. It means the American benefits list above should not be assumed anywhere else, including in the Netherlands where a legal entity does exist. [official]
Benefit fields not publicly quantified
No verified Discord-wide sabbatical policy, global certification budget, learning-platform vendor, internal rotation programme, employee assistance design, pension matrix or universal relocation schedule was found, and no benefit is quantified in cash beyond the $375 quarterly wellness stipend and the $1,000 donation match. For India and Australia there is no verified Discord employing entity, office or benefits schedule at all, so only statutory floors can be described: Indian provident fund at 12 percent employee and 12 percent employer contribution for covered employees subject to scheme rules, statutory gratuity where coverage and service conditions are met, and maternity leave of up to 26 weeks for eligible employees; and in Australia a superannuation guarantee of 12 percent from 1 July 2025, four weeks of annual leave and ten days of paid personal and carer's leave under the National Employment Standards. In the United Kingdom most workers are entitled to 5.6 weeks of paid holiday. Every one of those is law that binds any employer in that country, not a Discord benefit, and no Discord enhancement above any of them has been verified.
Performance Review & Pay Progression
This is the emptiest section on the page, and the emptiness is the finding. Discord says managers go through a leadership programme, employees receive training, and compensation gives room to grow and be rewarded based on contributions and impact. That language establishes no rating scale and no compensation formula, and nothing else about performance or progression is public.

The only progression signal in the entire record is a sample characteristic rather than a rule: Levels.fyi associates its L3 label with Senior Software Engineer at roughly 7 to 8 years of experience and its L4 label at roughly 10 to 11 years. Those describe who happened to submit data, not a minimum service requirement, and the gap between them is not a promotion clock. No verified dataset distinguishes lateral hires from internal promotees at the same Discord level, so no lateral premium can be quantified either; current postings may reflect new-hire market ranges while employee submissions mix new hires, refresh grants and tenure.
Pay progression evidence
For benchmarking, use the current posted base ranges and the role requirements attached to them rather than a hypothetical years-in-band rule. The shape of progression that the posted ranges do reveal is worth reading on its own: base roughly doubles from the entry software-engineer floor of $160,000 to the staff floor of $248,000, is essentially flat between staff and first-line management, and then jumps $90,000 at the Director step. Reported equity moves far more than base does across the same span, from about $14,600 a year at entry to $200,000 at the reported manager level, which means a Discord promotion is mostly an equity event and its cash value depends on a valuation nobody outside the company can verify.
H-1B / LCA Visa Footprint — United States
H-1B filings are the only government-verified wage evidence about Discord, and they are narrow: a handful of San Francisco engineering and product filings a year, certified as base wage for immigration compliance. They exclude equity, bonus, benefits, sign-on and relocation entirely, so they verify the base half of a Discord package and say nothing at all about the half that matters most here.
Dataset summary
| Dataset | Result | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Labour condition application (LCA) | 34 filed for FY2026, 55 for FY2025 | A Department of Labor wage attestation. It can cover new employment, a continuation, an amendment or a worksite change, so the count is an upper bound on hiring and never equals headcount. |
| USCIS Form I-129 petition | 6 approved and 0 denied for FY2026 | The petition itself. Approval is not the same event as LCA certification, and petitions can be amended or withdrawn, so a 100 percent displayed approval rate should not be read as a selection statistic. |
| New-hire position slice | 7 positions through FY2026 Q2 | A narrower Department of Labor filter that isolates genuinely new positions. It is the cleanest wage distribution in the record and also the smallest. |
| Historical title records | 68 filings across six titles | 21 Senior Software Engineer, 21 Senior Data Scientist, 12 Software Engineer, 6 Staff Software Engineer, 5 Senior Data Engineer and 3 Engineering Manager, each with its own median. |
City-level H-1B wage history
| City | P25 | Median | P75 | Records |
|---|---|---|---|---|
San Francisco, CA Discord's headquarters and the entire FY2026 new-hire slice. The historical city median across a much larger filing count is about $234,650, roughly $10,000 below the current new-hire median. | $225K | $245,000 | $289K | 7 |
Brooklyn, NY One historical observation and the second-highest city wage in the record. Percentiles cannot be computed from a single filing, so all three columns repeat the one certified wage. | $335K | $335,000 | $335K | 1 |
Los Altos, CA One historical observation and the highest city wage in the record, above every posted senior-engineer maximum. A single filing, and not evidence of a permanent Discord office. | $343K | $342,500 | $343K | 1 |
Cambridge, MA One historical observation, consistent with a senior or staff certified base wage on the national range. Percentiles repeat the single value. | $265K | $265,000 | $265K | 1 |
Dallas, TX One historical observation and the lowest city wage in the record, close to the FY2026 new-hire minimum of $210,000. Percentiles repeat the single value. | $213K | $213,199 | $213K | 1 |
All-years aggregates. P25/P75 are rounded reconstruction values marked modeled; medians and record counts are the stronger fields.
Selected title / worksite records
| Title | Worksite | Proffered wage | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Senior Software Engineer | San Francisco, CA | $315,000 | The FY2026 new-hire maximum, and above the top of every posted senior-engineer base range. It may reflect a different internal level, a specialised domain, a negotiated salary or filing timing, and it is not a senior-band ceiling. |
| Engineering Manager | San Francisco, CA | $300,000 | Sits inside the posted engineering-manager envelope of $248,000 to $310,000 and $27,000 above the reported manager base of $273,000. The historical Engineering Manager median across three filings is $285,000. |
| Senior Data Scientist | San Francisco, CA | $277,000 | The historical Senior Data Scientist median across 21 filings is $235,000 with a $190,000 to $277,000 range, so this FY2026 filing is at the top of the title's own history. |
| Software Engineer | San Francisco, CA | $210,000 | The FY2026 new-hire minimum, and $10,000 above the top of Discord's posted $160,000 to $200,000 software-engineer base range. The historical Software Engineer median across 12 filings is $200,000. |
| Senior Product Designer | San Francisco, CA | $245,000 | Above the $211,500 top of Discord's posted Senior Product Designer range, one of the clearest cases on the page of an individual certified wage exceeding a posted band. |
| Pricing and Yield Management Lead | San Francisco, CA | $235,000 | A commercial rather than engineering role, and evidence that Discord sponsors outside its technical ladder. No Discord posting for this title carries a public range. |
Reading the data correctly
- A certified wage is base salary offered for immigration compliance. It excludes private-company equity, annual cash bonus, benefits and retirement contributions, sign-on, relocation and retention awards, and it says nothing about vested or unvested stock treatment.
- The FY2026 new-hire slice is seven positions. A seven-observation distribution has genuinely wide uncertainty at the percentile level, and no city other than San Francisco has more than one record in the whole history.
- Osito reports seven FY2026 new-hire positions while MyVisaJobs reports 34 FY2026 applications and six I-129 approvals. Both can be right: they count different things, and the databases themselves warn that application counts do not equal hires or visas issued.
- Several certified wages exceed the top of the corresponding posted Discord range, including a $315,000 senior-engineer filing and a $245,000 senior-designer filing. Read that as evidence that individual offers depart from posted bands, not as a hidden higher band.
- Worksite records do not prove a permanent office. Los Altos, Cambridge, Dallas and Brooklyn each appear once and are consistent with remote employees or short-term worksites under Discord's own flexible-work statement.
- H-1B data covers the United States only. It provides no evidence at all about the Netherlands, Singapore or any market where Discord has no verified entity.
Key Nuances & Insights
Discord's posted Staff Software Engineer range of $248,000 to $279,000 has a midpoint of $263,500, and the independently collected Levels.fyi reported base for the same level is $263,500. Two unrelated sources landing on the same number is the strongest single validation anywhere in this record, and it is why the Staff row is the most trustworthy total on the page.
The posted Staff Software Engineer range and the posted Engineering Manager, Platform Security range both start at exactly $248,000, and the reported Staff and manager totals of $453,000 and $473,000 are within 5 percent. The Director of Engineering range then starts at $400,000, a $90,000 step above the top of the manager envelope. The money on this ladder is in the Director transition, not the first move into management.
A Strategic Finance role is posted at $116,000 to $130,500 while an entry software-engineer posting starts at $160,000, so the lowest corporate range sits below the engineering floor. At the senior label, design is posted at $188,000 to $211,500, business systems at $192,000 to $216,000, technology risk at $180,000 to $202,500 and engineering at $196,000 to $245,000. Comparing Discord titles by seniority word without checking the function will misprice an offer by tens of thousands of dollars.
Observed cash bonus never exceeds 3.1 percent of a reported package and is zero in nine consecutive recent employee submissions across five cities, while reported annualized stock rises from about a tenth of an entry package to roughly 42 percent of a manager package. Anyone negotiating a Discord offer against a cash-bonus-heavy benchmark is negotiating the wrong variable.
The FY2026 Senior Software Engineer H-1B filing certified $315,000 of base wage against a posted senior maximum of $245,000, and a Senior Product Designer filing certified $245,000 against a posted maximum of $211,500. These are government-verified base wages, so the gap is real. It shows that a posted range describes a role's advertised band rather than the ceiling of what Discord will actually pay a specific candidate.
Levels.fyi reports $435,000 total at L5 against $453,000 at L4, an inversion that would be a strange policy if it were one. It is a small-sample and grant-timing artefact, compounded by the fact that private-company equity is marked at whatever valuation the submitting employee assumed. A Blind principal submission in the same period showed $600,000, which is the size of the dispersion at that level.
Nasdaq Private Market estimated $34.07 per share on 12 August 2026 and Forge $31.31 with an $8.53 billion derived valuation on 8 July 2026. Neither is Discord's 409A fair market value, a grant price or a strike price. Converting a reported $100,000 annualized equity figure into a share count using either would invent precision that the underlying grant agreement, share class, tax treatment and transfer-approval process do not support.
The employee-reported schedule is a 25 percent one-year cliff then 6.25 percent quarterly, which reads like any public-company RSU. What differs is settlement: a private grant agreement can attach liquidity-event conditions, and Nasdaq Private Market notes that private shareholders may need to transact through the company or an approved marketplace subject to restrictions. Treat the equity line of a Discord offer as deferred and conditional, not as a dated cash flow.
The company-information page lists Discord Inc. in San Francisco and Discord Netherlands B.V. at Schiphol, and nothing else. Yet Discord posts a Singapore Solutions Architect role. Absence from an impressum is not proof that no worker exists in a country, but it does mean the employing arrangement, and therefore the statutory contributions and leave attached to it, is undisclosed for every market outside the United States and the Netherlands.
S$252,000 to S$283,500 converts to about $198,400 to $223,200, which brackets the United States senior engineering anchor of $220,500 and the Senior Salesforce Technical Lead midpoint of $204,000. Most technology employers price Singapore well below San Francisco. One senior customer-facing role is not a country ladder, and the 0.96 factor this report applies to Singapore should be read as the implication of a single posting rather than as an established Singapore band.
Glassdoor's Discord Software Engineer range is $120,000 to $176,000 across 75 submissions while Levels.fyi's L2 package is $244,792. That is not necessarily a contradiction: the two differ in pay definition, level mix, sample timing and, above all, in how they treat private-company equity. It is a warning that a single quoted Discord total means nothing without knowing which definition produced it.
Discord removed 170 roles on 12 January 2024, about 17 percent of the company, after a prior 4 percent reduction in August 2023 and fivefold growth since 2020. No company-wide pay cut, freeze or reduced payout was reported alongside it, and no salary-hike announcement, effective date or variable payout percentage has been published for 2024, 2025 or 2026 in either direction. The absence of any published compensation calendar across three years is itself a finding.
The single highest posted range in the catalogue is Director of Engineering, Safety at $400,000 to $450,000, and one of the two engineering-manager postings is for machine learning in safety. Yet the specialist layer that does the actual trust and safety work carries no Discord-posted range at all, only a Glassdoor envelope of $62,000 to $104,000. The function Discord pays most to lead is the one it discloses least about at the working level.
Research control
Against listed consumer-internet peers, Discord's posted base ranges are competitive rather than exceptional, and its distinguishing feature is the shape of the package rather than its size: high base, negligible cash bonus and a large equity component that carries no public price. The three peers shown on this page exist to demonstrate what disclosure looks like, not to benchmark: Reddit disclosed $3.10 million of chief executive pay against a $274,953 median for an 11.3 to 1 ratio, Roblox $24.57 million against $394,921 for 62.2 to 1, and Zoom $1.28 million against $165,164 for 7.8 to 1. The 20-fold spread between those three, all of them consumer or communications platforms, is the clearest possible argument against inferring Discord's executive pay from a peer set.
Evidence classification
| Label | Meaning | Examples and permitted use |
|---|---|---|
| Verified | A Discord job posting, careers page, company-information page or a government rule such as a statutory leave entitlement. | The highest-confidence company-specific fact available. Note that a posting is a role range, not a company band, and that it prices base salary only. |
| Reported | Levels.fyi, Blind or Glassdoor employee submissions, or a Department of Labor visa wage extract. | Directional market evidence with sample, methodology and timing caveats. Visa wages are government-certified but cover base salary only and a handful of San Francisco filings. |
| Modeled | The San Francisco anchor times a city calibration factor, or the midpoint of a stated envelope where the source declines to publish a median. | Planning envelopes for scenario work. Every Netherlands and Singapore cell below the single posted role is modelled, as is the senior-manager row. |
| Not publicly disclosed | A result, not a gap in the research. A private corporation is not required to publish it and has not. | Do not fill it from a peer company, a market multiplier or a generic industry rule. Executive pay, the pay ratio, the equity pool and the performance framework all sit here. |
Explicit “Not publicly disclosed” index
Known gaps and diligence before relying on a cell
- 1Only one research bundle exists for Discord, so there is no second bundle to cross-check against and no inter-bundle discrepancy to report. Every figure on this page traces to that bundle's own source register.
- 2Where an official posted base and a reported base disagree for the same level, this page uses the posted midpoint and names the reported figure in the row's source note. That is why the IC2 total of $233,517 is below the Levels.fyi L2 total of $244,792 and the IC3 total of $331,466 is below its L3 total of $363,718: the reported bases of $191,275 and $252,800 are higher than the posted midpoints of $180,000 and $220,500.
- 3Vice-president, senior vice-president and C-suite rows are deliberately excluded from the band table. No compensation evidence exists for them at all, and including a single worldwide executive figure would have forced every location factor toward 1.0 at the top of the ladder. The employee ladder therefore caps at the Director row, and the executive section carries the layer with no numbers rather than invented ones.
- 4The senior or group engineering-manager row is the only modelled band anchor on the page. The source records a $272,000 to $341,000 envelope for that layer and explicitly declines to publish a median, so the $306,500 shown is the midpoint of that envelope and is labelled Modeled.
- 5The Netherlands factor of 0.63 rests on one workplace-operations posting compared with one strategic-finance posting, and the Singapore factor of 0.96 rests on one solutions-architect posting compared with the United States senior technical anchor. Neither is a country ladder, and applying either to a level far from the observed role is a model, not evidence.
- 6Total factors are set equal to base factors in both overseas markets rather than being derived from a total-compensation observation. Discord publishes no local grant schedule anywhere, so any divergence between the two would have been the artefact of a United States equity range applied to another country.
- 7No employer benefit load is included in any total-compensation figure. Every total is base plus observed bonus plus reported annualized equity, and the wellness stipend, donation match, internet reimbursement and HSA contribution are recorded as benefits rather than added to pay.
- 8Los Angeles carries a factor of 1 with no office, no visa record and no employee submission. It is present only because Discord's national posted range would apply to a remote hire there, and its row should be read as the national range rather than as a Los Angeles observation.
- 9The operations rows rest on Glassdoor total-pay envelopes that may already blend base, bonus and stock, and their zero equity figures are disclosure gaps rather than real zeros. The same is true of every posted-base row from Strategic Finance through Director of Engineering.
- 10The H-1B application and petition counts come from two databases that count different things, 34 applications from one and seven new-hire positions from the other, and both warn that their counts do not equal hires. Neither is a headcount source.

Recent News & Workforce Trend
Discord publishes no compensation calendar, so the events that matter for pay are corporate rather than programmatic: a chief executive change, a confidential IPO filing, two private-market price marks and a restructuring. There is no salary-hike announcement, no payout statement and no pay-freeze announcement in the record for any of 2024, 2025 or 2026.
Current exact headcount, quarterly net additions, the geographic split and the attrition rate, whether quarterly, last-twelve-months, voluntary or involuntary, are all not publicly disclosed. City-level headcount is unavailable even for San Francisco, which is why this report calibrates markets from posted ranges rather than weighting them by population. Discord also published no audited revenue figure, so no revenue-per-employee or compensation-to-revenue ratio can be computed, and third-party revenue estimates are deliberately excluded from the metrics on this page.
The company cited rapid expansion and organisational inefficiency, following a roughly 4 percent reduction in August 2023 and fivefold growth since 2020. No company-wide pay cut, freeze or reduced payout was reported alongside it.
The co-founder stepped down as chief executive and stayed on as a board member and advisor, with Stanislav Vishnevskiy remaining chief technology officer. No compensation, transition payment or equity treatment was disclosed for any of them.
A scale figure from Discord's own data. It is context rather than a compensation disclosure, and it sits beside no audited revenue number, so it cannot be turned into a per-employee productivity measure.
A confidential submission publishes no exhibits and no tables, and the reporting noted that deliberations were ongoing and Discord could decide not to list. A completed listing would eventually reveal the equity plan, the share reserve, stock-based compensation expense and a first Summary Compensation Table.
A proprietary derived price using primary and secondary inputs, and a reference point against a 2021 primary round cited above $15 billion. It is not a public closing price, a 409A value or a plan valuation.
Published 35 days after the Forge mark and 8.8 percent above it. The page also notes that private shareholders may need to transact through the company or an approved marketplace subject to restrictions, which is the closest thing to a liquidity statement in the record.
MyVisaJobs recorded 34 FY2026 labour condition applications, seven green-card labour petitions, seven prevailing-wage requests and six approved I-129 petitions with no denials, against 55 applications in FY2025. Application counts are not hires.
With $250,000 at the 25th percentile, $403,000 at the 70th and $672,000 at the 90th. The nine most recent submissions behind it, spanning San Francisco, Seattle, New York, Denver and Washington, all reported zero cash bonus.
Reported packages run from $153,748 at the entry label to $453,000 at staff, $435,000 at principal and $473,000 at the manager label, with cash bonus never above $10,000 on any row.
From Strategic Finance at $116,000 to $130,500 to Director of Engineering, Safety at $400,000 to $450,000, with equity and benefits stated separately on almost every one. These postings are the strongest compensation evidence Discord produces about itself.
