How Broadcom Pays
Broadcom's ICB1 to ICB8 technical ladder and its supervisor to director management track, priced across 30 markets alongside RSUs, performance shares settling 0 to 200 percent, a 15 percent discounted ESPP, Hock Tan's $205.28M FY2025 package at 543:1, and 91 FY2025 H-1B wage records.
Band Hierarchy
Broadcom publishes no global grade manual. The ICB1 to ICB8 labels appear in public salary submissions across several functions rather than in any company document, and the management titles beside them are inferred from separately observed manager samples. Only the named executive officers and the board carry a company disclosure.

Hierarchy qualifications and legacy structures
- ICB1 through ICB7 are labels visible in public salary datasets. ICB8 and every management title beside the ICB numbers are inferred, and Broadcom has never published a grade chart that would confirm either.
- The crosswalk is most reliable for semiconductor and software engineering roles and progressively less precise for sales, operations, manufacturing and corporate functions, where equivalent scope can be graded differently.
- Broadcom is an acquisition-built company. Legacy Avago, Broadcom Corporation, CA Technologies, Symantec enterprise security and VMware populations can carry different titles, vesting histories and refresh cadence inside the same nominal level.
- Vice president, senior vice president and executive vice president are corporate titles rather than a hidden grade number, so this report treats them as title tiers carried in the executive section rather than claiming a numeric band for them.
- The vice-president through chief-executive rows are deliberately excluded from the band table. Broadcom discloses one worldwide figure for each of them, and interpolating a city factor onto a global executive number would produce absurd offshore cells.
Peer-level mapping
| Band | Archetype | Peer mapping | Caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| ICB1 | Associate / Entry Engineer | Google L3, Meta E3, NVIDIA IC1 to IC2 | Approximate scope orientation only; Broadcom publishes no peer-level crosswalk.Levels.fyi United States software-engineering median; components sum exactly to the reported total. |
| ICB2 | Engineer / Member of Technical Staff | Google L4, Meta E4, NVIDIA IC2 | Approximate scope orientation only; Broadcom publishes no peer-level crosswalk.Levels.fyi United States software-engineering median; annualized stock already exceeds half of base at this level. |
| ICB3 | Senior Engineer / Senior MTS | Google L5, Meta E5, NVIDIA IC3 | Approximate scope orientation only; Broadcom publishes no peer-level crosswalk.Levels.fyi United States software-engineering median; the first level where annualized stock exceeds base. |
| ICB4 | Staff Engineer | Google L6, Meta E6, NVIDIA IC4 | Approximate scope orientation only; Broadcom publishes no peer-level crosswalk.Levels.fyi United States software-engineering median; the best-populated band in the public sample. |
| ICB5 | Principal Engineer | Google L7, Meta E7, NVIDIA IC5 | Approximate scope orientation only; public ICB5 submissions vary materially in the equity component.Levels.fyi United States software-engineering median; dispersion is wide because grant vintage dominates. |
| ICB6 | Master / Senior Principal Engineer | Google L8, Meta E8, NVIDIA IC6 | The public ICB6 software sample reads at $1.639 million total and is a sparse, stock-appreciation-driven outlier.Modelled central estimate of $900,000 rather than the observed $1.639 million outlier; equity is the residual after base and the 25 percent target bonus. |
| ICB7 | Distinguished Engineer | Google L9 and above, Meta E9, distinguished-engineer tier | The individual-contributor sample at this level is sparse; the manager-track observation is firmer.Observed manager data blended with a modelled individual-contributor centre; equity is the residual after base and the 35 percent target bonus. |
| ICB8 | Fellow / Senior Distinguished Engineer | Fellow, senior director and vice-president boundary | Low-confidence model. Broadcom publishes no ICB8 catalogue and the public sample is effectively empty.Modelled boundary band; equity is the residual after base and the 50 percent target bonus and sits inside the $900,000 to $2,000,000 model envelope. |
| MGR4 | Supervisor / Software Engineering Manager | Google M1, Meta M1, first-line engineering management | Management observations begin at this level; below it Broadcom shows no separate public management title.Levels.fyi United States software-engineering-manager sample, rounded as published; the equity component is far below the ICB4 individual-contributor sample. |
| MGR5 | Manager / Senior Engineering Manager | Google M2, Meta M2, second-line engineering management | Small sample; the equity component moves the total far more than base does.Levels.fyi United States software-engineering-manager sample, rounded as published. |
| MGR6 | Senior Manager / Director-equivalent | Google director, Meta D1, business-unit engineering leadership | Small sample. At this level a Broadcom manager's stock is roughly three times base salary.Levels.fyi United States software-engineering-manager sample, rounded as published; base is flat against MGR5 while equity roughly triples. |
| MGR7 | Director / Senior Director-equivalent | Google senior director, Meta D2, senior business-unit leadership | The top public management observation. Above it Broadcom discloses named officers only, not a band.Levels.fyi United States software-engineering-manager sample, rounded as published; the bonus is 47 percent of base, the highest observed ratio in the employee sample. |
Critical evidence warning
Broadcom does not publish salary ranges, band minimums, midpoints or a rating scale for ordinary employees anywhere in the sources reviewed. Every non-executive figure here is a third-party observation or a calibrated model around one, and should be used for orientation rather than quoted as a Broadcom pay band.

Global Footprint & Pay Arbitrage
Broadcom reported approximately 33,000 employees at the FY2025 close, split 49 percent North America, 36 percent Asia and 15 percent EMEA, with 57 percent of them in research and development. San Jose is the pay anchor; Bengaluru is the largest engineering concentration outside the United States, and every other market is calibrated against the San Jose median.

Broadcom does not publish city-level headcount, so this catalogue does not rank offices by employee count. San Jose accounts for 62 of the 91 FY2025 visa wage records, but visa concentration is a filing pattern and not a headcount measure.
San Jose anchor medians — the basis of every modeled cell
| Band | Base | Stock | Bonus | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ICB1 | $104K | $33K | $12K | $149K |
| ICB2 | $134K | $70K | $13K | $217K |

| MGR6 | $221K | $689K | $75K | $985K |
| MGR7 | $270K | $861K | $126K | $1.26M |
- The San Jose column is the anchor. ICB1 through ICB5 come from Levels.fyi United States software-engineering medians, ICB6 through ICB8 are modelled centres, and the MGR4 to MGR7 rows come from the separate software-engineering-manager sample.
- The public ICB6 software observation reads at $1.639 million total because of stock appreciation in a very small sample. The anchor deliberately uses a $900,000 centre instead rather than treating a sampling artefact as a Broadcom level.
- Bengaluru is the only city with observations across six bands: 1.92 million rupees of base and 4.98 million rupees total at ICB1, 3.58 million and 12.71 million at ICB3, 5.24 million and 27.9 million at ICB4, and a 31.83 million rupee total point at ICB6.
- India base pay runs at roughly 19 percent of the San Jose anchor at ICB1 and rises towards 36 percent at the top of the ladder, while total compensation runs from about 34 percent to about 44 percent, so the multiple against the United States falls from around three times at entry to nearer two times at the senior end.
- Direct observations also exist at Israel ICB3 and ICB4, Ireland ICB4, Canada ICB5, Taiwan ICB4 and ICB5, and Pune ICB4. Those cities are held flat across the ladder because their observed ratios move in both directions and do not evidence a consistent junior-to-senior ramp.
Model rules
- Every modelled cell is the San Jose median multiplied by the city base or total factor and then by the 26 August 2026 foreign-exchange snapshot.
- A total compensation cell is base plus target bonus plus annualized equity. Sign-on cash, relocation, one-time retention awards and the employer cost of benefits are all excluded, so nothing here is loaded with a notional benefit percentage.
- India carries separate junior and senior factors for both base and total because the Bengaluru observations show base compressing far harder than total against the United States anchor. Every other market uses a single flat pair.
- The bundle published one flat pair per city. The India ramp used here is derived from the six observed Bengaluru bands and then scaled proportionally onto Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai and Mumbai from their published flat factors.
- Where no direct city observation exists, the cell is marked modelled and should be treated as a planning envelope rather than a benchmark, particularly in manufacturing, sales and operations-heavy sites where the role mix differs sharply from engineering.
Variable Pay & Annual Cash Incentive
Broadcom discloses its named-executive bonus mechanics in detail and discloses nothing at all about the employee bonus grid. The named executive targets, gates and payout outcomes below are company disclosures; the band targets are modelled from bonus components observed in public salary submissions.

Employee payout timing and history
Broadcom publishes no bonus-target grid by level and no employee-wide payout history. The 167 percent average named-executive outcome for FY2025 applies to four disclosed officers and must not be read as a companywide multiplier. No reliable public source establishes that Broadcom paid all employees any common factor in FY2023 through FY2025, so the band targets shown here are modelled from bonus components observed in public salary submissions.
Sales and special incentives
Broadcom does not disclose quota structures, commission rates, accelerators or draw arrangements for its sales organisation, and no comprehensive global policy on project incentives, spot bonuses or deal bonuses is published. Sales, field applications and customer engineering roles in the model carry the same modelled targets as their level peers, which will understate on-target earnings for quota-carrying sellers, particularly in Australia and Singapore where the public sample is dominated by those roles.
Equity — RSUs, PSUs, Options & ESPP
Broadcom is a United States issuer, so employee equity means restricted stock units, performance share units and employee stock purchase plan purchases rather than an Indian-style employee stock ownership plan. Options survive only inside expired legacy pools and assumed VMware awards, and the acquisition history means one employee population can hold awards from four different plans at once.
- Total awards outstanding across every plan were 229,292,444 shares and total remaining capacity including the purchase plan was 384,875,261 shares, so outstanding is 37.3 percent of outstanding plus remaining.
- That 37.3 percent is a simple research ratio and not a company-disclosed utilisation rate. Cancellations, tax withholding, recycling rules, award types and purchase-plan mechanics all affect the legal capacity number.
- Stockholder-approved awards outstanding were 173,343,418 shares against 55,949,026 outstanding under plans Broadcom stockholders never approved, which is a direct consequence of the VMware acquisition rather than of ordinary grant policy.
- Unrecognised compensation cost of $23.833 billion against a FY2025 expense of $7.568 billion means roughly three years of already-committed equity expense is still to run through the accounts.
Equity plan capacity and grant activity
Vesting — common reported employee schedule
Employee restricted stock units commonly run over four years in public reports, either 25 percent yearly with quarterly settlement or 25 percent at the first anniversary followed by roughly 2.08 percent monthly. The individual grant agreement governs. FY2025 broke the pattern: Broadcom granted staggered Two-Year Equity Awards in place of the normal annual employee cycle, with vesting start dates of 15 March 2025 and 15 March 2026, so two overlapping retention periods now run at once and year-on-year grant-value comparisons are unreliable.
Eligibility by hierarchy level
- Broadcom publishes no minimum eligible band, no standard grant table and no guarantee that any individual employee receives stock. Restricted stock units are visible in public packages from ICB1 upward, but that is an observation about a sample, not a policy.
- Annualized value ranges observed and modelled in the bundle run roughly $15,000 to $45,000 at ICB1, $100,000 to $220,000 at ICB3, $300,000 to $600,000 at ICB5, $650,000 to $1.2 million at ICB7 and $900,000 to $2 million at ICB8.
- Performance share units are concentrated in executive and senior retention programmes and generally settle from 0 to 200 percent of target. They are not the ordinary employee instrument, which is the service-based restricted stock unit.
- Employees hired through the VMware, CA Technologies or Symantec transactions can hold assumed awards, inducement awards and new Broadcom awards side by side, with different vesting histories and different refresh expectations inside the same team.
- At the 26 August 2026 reference price of $356.74 a share, the modelled annual grant bands translate to roughly 42 to 127 shares a year at ICB1, 840 to 1,682 at ICB5 and 2,522 to 5,607 at ICB8. Those share counts move every day and are a reference aid, not a grant commitment.

Named executive target equity
| Executive | Target | Units / structure |
|---|---|---|
Hock E. Tan President and Chief Executive Officer | $202.35M of FY2025 stock awards | A single front-loaded award of 610,521 target performance share units granted on 3 September 2025. The performance period begins in FY2028 and settlement can reach 300 percent of target, which is why the proxy also presents a $35.03 million annualized view of the same year. |
Kirsten M. Spears Chief Financial Officer and Chief Accounting Officer in FY2025 | $27.14M of FY2025 stock awards | Restricted stock units and performance share units under the 2012 Plan. She held 102,032 restricted stock units in her post-transaction holdings at the end of December 2025 and retired on 12 June 2026. |
Mark D. Brazeal Chief Legal and Corporate Affairs Officer | $27.21M of FY2025 stock awards | Restricted stock units and performance share units under the 2012 Plan, with two separate 2025 tax-withholding sales covering vested settlements. |
Charlie B. Kawwas President, Semiconductor Solutions Group | $21,750 of FY2025 stock awards | An almost empty grant year. His FY2025 package is cash-led at $721,000 of salary and $1,351,876 of bonus, which is what an off-cycle year looks like when equity is granted in multi-year blocks. |
Amie Thuener Chief Financial Officer from June 2026 | 50,000 RSUs and 50,000 target PSUs | The June 2026 new-hire award: restricted stock units vesting quarterly over four years and performance share units over four overlapping annual performance periods with a maximum of 200 percent, worth about $17.84 million each at the reference price. |
Executive Compensation
FY2025 Summary Compensation Table values from the 2026 proxy statement. Stock awards are ASC 718 grant-date fair values rather than cash received, and the gap is unusually wide here because the chief executive's award is front-loaded across future years.
Reading the package
Salary was about 0.6 percent of the chief executive's FY2025 reported total and stock awards about 98.6 percent, with no annual cash bonus at all. The number is therefore an accounting value for a single multi-year performance share award whose performance period does not start until FY2028, not money received during FY2025. Anyone benchmarking Broadcom against a peer proxy should use the $35.03 million annualized figure or accept that the comparison is between a multi-year grant and an annual one.
On the headline figure Broadcom pays its chief executive roughly four times the next-highest semiconductor peer, and its 543:1 ratio is well above AMD at 341:1, Qualcomm at 292:1, Marvell at 158:1 and NVIDIA at 129:1. On the annualized view the same package sits at $35.03 million and 93:1, which is below every peer ratio in this table and close to NVIDIA on absolute dollars. Pay-ratio methodologies differ by workforce mix, so neither ranking should be read as a clean league table.
Named Executive Officers & Board
Broadcom discloses named officers rather than a leadership salary grid, so the vice-president through executive-vice-president ranges below are a deliberately broad research model and are excluded from the band table.
The modelled leadership envelope runs from $350,000 to $650,000 of base and $2 million to $15 million of total for a division vice president, $600,000 to $900,000 of base and $5 million to $50 million of total for a senior vice president or group president, and $700,000 to $1.2 million of base and $15 million to $60 million of total for an executive vice president or corporate officer. The width is not sloppiness: officer equity at Broadcom arrives in episodic multi-year blocks, so any single year's figure for one individual can sit anywhere inside that range. Charlie Kawwas is the clearest illustration, with $21,750 of FY2025 stock awards against $27.2 million for the Chief Legal Officer in the same year.
Board compensation framework
| Element | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Annual cash retainer | $105,000 | The standard retainer for every non-employee director. |
| Independent board chair | $175,000 | Paid in addition to the standard retainer. |
| Lead independent director | $100,000 | Paid in addition to the standard retainer where the role applies. |
| Committee chair retainers | $27,500 to $45,000 | $45,000 for audit, $30,000 for compensation and $27,500 for nominating and corporate governance. |
| Annual restricted stock unit target | $275,000 | The FY2025 grant-date target for non-employee directors, raised to $295,000 after December 2025. |
| Director award vesting | One year | Subject to continued service through the vesting date. |
A fully loaded independent director package sits around $380,000 a year before committee chair work, of which roughly 72 percent is equity. That is a governance package rather than an employment band and is excluded from the range chart.

Compensation for Broadcom's regional heads across the Americas, EMEA and Asia Pacific is not publicly disclosed unless the individual qualifies as a named executive officer or files an insider report, and no estimate is presented here. The June 2026 chief financial officer appointment is the one recent officer package disclosed in full: a $700,000 base, a 100 percent target bonus, a $1,000,000 sign-on payment, 50,000 restricted stock units vesting quarterly over four years and 50,000 target performance share units over four overlapping annual periods with a maximum of 200 percent.
Insider Trades — SEC Forms 3/4/5
Recent Section 16 activity is dominated by sales, a gift and tax-withholding disposals rather than by option exercises. Broadcom filed no comprehensive employee exercise ledger, and the Indian promoter-group and takeover-code frameworks that a reader might expect do not apply to a Nasdaq issuer.

Benefits & Perks
Broadcom's filings disclose only a handful of benefit features, and it publishes no country rewards portals. The United States 401(k) and the employee stock purchase plan are the two genuinely evidenced employer benefits; almost everything else below is either a statutory baseline or an employee report, and the gaps are recorded rather than filled.
United States
- Retirement — 401(k) with a dollar-for-dollar match up to 6 percent. Matching contributions vest immediately, which is unusually generous against a market norm of graded vesting. Broadcom contributed $174 million to the plan in FY2025. [official]
- Equity — Employee stock purchase plan at a 15 percent discount. Purchases at 85 percent of the lower fair market value at the start or the end of a six-month offering period, with 53,286,882 shares remaining at the FY2025 close. [official]
- Equity — Restricted stock units and performance share units. Grants are widespread in reported professional packages, but eligibility and grant size are role, level and performance dependent and no standard table is published. [official]
- Health — Medical, dental, vision and savings accounts. Medical, dental, vision, health and flexible spending accounts, mental-health support and dependent-care benefits appear in employee benefit listings. The carrier and the employer premium share are not public. [reported]
- Protection — Life, accident and disability cover. Life, accidental death and dismemberment, short-term disability and long-term disability are reported benefit categories. The coverage multiples are not publicly disclosed. [reported]
- Time off — Paid time off, parental leave and fertility support. The categories are visible in employee reporting but the companywide day and week quantities are not published anywhere in the sources. [npd]
Global programs
- Wellbeing — Employee assistance and mental health. Employee assistance and mental-health categories appear in employee reporting, but the country-level vendors and the session limits are not public. [reported]
- Learning — Tuition reimbursement. Broadcom disclosed approximately $540,000 of tuition reimbursement across 2025 in its workforce reporting. Spread across roughly 33,000 employees that is about $16 a head, so the individual caps and the eligibility rule matter far more than the headline. [official]
- Working model — Hybrid and remote work. No single universal global remote-work entitlement is publicly documented. Practices vary by team and by legacy business, and the semiconductor sites behave differently from the infrastructure software ones. [npd]
- Mobility — Internal mobility and sabbatical. No reliable public global internal-mobility framework or sabbatical entitlement was found in any source reviewed for this report. [npd]
Benefit fields not publicly quantified
Broadcom is a filings-only benefits discloser. Outside the 401(k) match, the $174 million FY2025 employer contribution, the employee stock purchase plan discount and the $540,000 tuition figure, every employer-specific benefit term in every country is either an employee report or genuinely unpublished. Statutory baselines from the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation, the Australian Taxation Office and the Fair Work Ombudsman are shown as statutory floors, not as Broadcom policy.
Performance Review & Pay Progression
Broadcom publishes no performance framework at all. There is no disclosed rating scale, no appraisal calendar, no merit budget and no promotion hike table anywhere in the filings, the careers site or the workforce reporting, so this section records what cannot be said as carefully as what can.

Equity timing is the one part of progression with real visibility, and in FY2025 it changed. Broadcom granted staggered Two-Year Equity Awards with vesting starts on 15 March 2025 and 15 March 2026 in place of the normal annual employee cycle, so an employee can now hold overlapping unvested blocks from two grant vintages plus, in the VMware population, assumed and inducement awards on top. That structure is a retention mechanism first and a progression signal second.
Pay progression evidence
Modelled progression, not Broadcom policy: ICB1 to ICB2 typically takes 1 to 3 years for an 8 to 15 percent cash increase; ICB2 to ICB3 takes 2 to 4 years for 8 to 15 percent; ICB3 to ICB4 takes 3 to 5 years for 10 to 18 percent plus an equity reset; ICB4 to ICB5 takes 3 to 5 years for 10 to 20 percent plus an equity reset; ICB5 to ICB6 takes 3 to 6 years and ICB6 to ICB7 takes 4 to 8 years, both case-specific. The cash percentages are market planning heuristics rather than disclosures, and at Broadcom they matter less than they would elsewhere: because annualized stock overtakes base salary from ICB3 upward, a promotion without a commensurate grant refresh can produce far less economic change than the title suggests.
H-1B / LCA Visa Footprint — United States
Broadcom is a concentrated rather than a heavy H-1B sponsor, with 91 FY2025 Broadcom Corporation records against thousands for the largest technology filers. Labour condition application wages are offered base salary only, so they exclude restricted stock units and bonus and should never be compared with a total compensation figure from the band table.
Dataset summary
| Dataset | Result | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| H1BData.info FY2025 Broadcom Corporation | 91 records at a $173,930 median | The primary dataset for this section, and the source of both the city and the job-family distributions. |
| H1BData.info FY2026 partial snapshot | 61 certified applications at a $178,131 median | A different and incomplete period, so it cannot be merged with the FY2025 figures. |
| H1BGrader approval reporting | An approximately 99.4 percent approval rate | The figure depends on the provider's definition, legal-entity scope and filing cohort, and is not a guarantee from United States Citizenship and Immigration Services. |
| MyVisaJobs entity snapshots | Materially different FY2025 counts by legal entity | Broadcom Corporation, Avago Technologies and VMware file separately. Consolidating them without an explicit source would double count. |
City-level H-1B wage history
| City | P25 | Median | P75 | Records |
|---|---|---|---|---|
San Jose The anchor worksite and 68 percent of all FY2025 records. | $168K | $182,736 | $205K | 62 |
Irvine The second filing centre, at about 88 percent of the San Jose median. | $147K | $160,638 | $174K | 17 |
San Diego A tight three-record sample with almost no spread between median and upper quartile. | $172K | $176,134 | $177K | 3 |
Andover The widest spread of any multi-record city, from $121,050 to $160,143. | $121K | $142,155 | $160K | 3 |
Chandler A two-record Arizona sample; Chandler is not carried in the location table because no band evidence exists there. | $150K | $154,430 | $159K | 2 |
Austin Two records within $3,300 of each other. | $156K | $157,872 | $160K | 2 |

Selected title / worksite records
| Title | Worksite | Proffered wage | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| R&D Engineer IC Design | Mostly San Jose and Irvine | $170,884 median across 47 records | The dominant title family at 52 percent of all FY2025 records, spanning $160,638 at the lower quartile to $202,870 at the upper. |
| R&D Engineer Software | Mostly San Jose | $182,962 median across 12 records | The highest-paid engineering family with more than ten records, with an upper quartile of $216,799. |
| R&D Engineer Hardware | Mostly San Jose and Irvine | $162,600 median across 8 records | A narrow band from $160,638 to $166,498, consistent with a single grade cluster. |
| R&D Engineer Software Quality | San Jose and secondary sites | $180,340 median across 7 records | Notably close to the software engineering family, which is unusual for a quality title. |
| Manager, R&D | San Jose | $195,613 for a single record | The highest single wage in the FY2025 file, and the only management title alongside one Senior Manager record at $172,839. |
| Field Applications Engineer | Customer-facing sites | $149,691 across 2 identical records | The lowest engineering family median in the file, and a reminder that customer-facing engineering prices differently from design. |
Reading the data correctly
- Labour condition application wages are the offered base wage rate for an immigration filing. Stock, bonus, benefits and actual tenure are absent, so a $173,930 median sits far below the total compensation the band table shows for the same seniority.
- The 91 FY2025 records cover Broadcom Corporation only. Avago Technologies and VMware are separate filers and their records are not consolidated here, so this is not a company-wide visa picture.
- San Jose accounts for 62 of the 91 records, which reflects where Broadcom files rather than where its United States employees actually sit. Visa concentration is not a headcount measure.
- Four of the eight cities have three records or fewer, so their quartiles are descriptions of a handful of individual filings rather than a wage distribution.
- The approximately 99.4 percent approval rate comes from a third-party aggregator with its own definition of the filing cohort and petition stage, and should not be read as an official approval statistic.
Key Nuances & Insights
From ICB3 upward the observed annualized stock exceeds base salary, and by ICB6 the modelled equity component is more than twice base. That makes a Broadcom offer far more sensitive to the share price and the grant vintage than to the salary line, and it makes any cash-only comparison with a peer offer misleading.
Hock Tan's FY2025 total is dominated by a 610,521 target performance share award granted on 3 September 2025 whose performance period does not begin until FY2028. Broadcom itself publishes a $35.03 million annualized view of the same year, and that is the figure to use against a peer proxy.
Every stock figure in the proxy is an ASC 718 accounting value. Actual proceeds depend on vesting, on performance certification for the performance share units, and on the share price on the settlement day, and for an award that can settle anywhere between 0 and 300 percent of target the two numbers can diverge enormously.
Broadcom replaced the normal annual employee grant with staggered two-year awards vesting from 15 March 2025 and 15 March 2026. An employee comparing this year's grant value with last year's is comparing two different structures, and the overlapping unvested blocks are a deliberate retention device.
That is far above a normal large-employer median and is the reason the 543:1 ratio is not as extreme as the chief executive number alone suggests. It reflects a workforce that is 57 percent research and development and 49 percent North American, with stock compensation included in the measure.
The observed Bengaluru ICB4 total of 27.9 million rupees sits above the observed ICB5 total of 17.99 million rupees. That is a small-sample and appreciated-stock artefact rather than an error to correct silently, and it is why the India cash factors in this report are more trustworthy than the total factors.
Base salary scales down against San Jose far harder than grant value does, which is why Indian, Israeli, Irish and Taiwanese packages read as disproportionately stock-heavy. It is also why this report gives India a base factor that ramps from 0.19 to 0.36 rather than one flat multiplier.
The observed ICB4 staff engineer totals $469,225 against $290,700 for the first-line manager sample, almost entirely because of a $247,150 versus $50,000 gap in annualized stock. The management premium only appears two levels later, when the director-equivalent sample reaches $984,700.
An employee can hold 2012 Plan awards, assumed VMware 2007 Plan awards, 2023 Inducement Plan awards and residual Avago 2009 awards at the same time, with different vesting histories and different refresh expectations. That is the practical consequence of an acquisition-built company and it complicates every internal comparison.
Broadcom discloses the named-executive formula down to the individual multiplier cap and discloses nothing about the employee grid. There is no published target matrix, no payout history and no rating scale, so the band targets in this report are modelled from observed bonus components and nothing more.
Voluntary attrition well below the technology market norm, combined with overlapping unvested grants and a share price that has compounded, means the economic cost of leaving is unusually high. That is the mechanism behind the low turnover, not a separately disclosed retention programme.
Stock-exchange allotment filings, takeover-code disclosure and the promoter-group concept do not apply. Insider activity is reported through United States Forms 3, 4, 5 and 144, and founder or trust holdings should be read from beneficial-ownership filings rather than treated as promoter filings.
Research control
On the headline figure Broadcom's chief executive pay is the highest in this semiconductor comparison set by a factor of roughly four, and its 543:1 ratio leads AMD at 341:1, Qualcomm at 292:1, Marvell at 158:1 and NVIDIA at 129:1. On Broadcom's own annualized view the same package is $35.03 million and 93:1, which is below every peer ratio here. On the employee side the ICB ladder tracks the large-cap semiconductor market closely in cash but sits above it in equity share: annualized stock is about 22 percent of the package at ICB1, passes base salary at ICB3 and reaches roughly 65 percent of total by ICB6.
Evidence classification
| Label | Meaning | Examples and permitted use |
|---|---|---|
| Verified | A Broadcom filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, a company disclosure or a government rule. | Executive and board pay, the pay ratio, equity plan capacity, headcount, attrition, the 401(k) match and the statutory benefit baselines. |
| Reported | A named third-party dataset with observable records, chiefly Levels.fyi submissions and H1BData.info labour condition applications. | The San Jose anchor medians, the management-track sample, the Bengaluru, Israel, Ireland, Canada, Taiwan and Pune observations, and the visa wage distributions. |
| Modeled | The San Jose anchor multiplied by a city calibration factor and the foreign-exchange snapshot, inside a stated planning envelope. | Every city without a direct observation, the ICB6 through ICB8 anchor centres, and all band-level bonus targets. |
| Not publicly disclosed | No source in the research bundle supports a figure. | Recorded as such rather than estimated, most heavily across performance management, employee bonus policy and non-United States benefits. |

Known gaps and diligence before relying on a cell
- 1The vice-president, senior-vice-president, executive-vice-president and chief-executive rows are deliberately excluded from the band table and carried in the executive section instead. Each is a single worldwide figure, and interpolating a city factor onto it would drive every location's factor toward 1.0 at the top of the ladder and produce absurd offshore cells such as an India-based officer on a United States chief-executive base. The band table therefore spans ICB1 to ICB8 and MGR4 to MGR7 only, which is exactly the population the calibration factors were built from.
- 2The research bundle published one flat base and total factor per city. This report keeps that flat pair everywhere except India, where six directly observed Bengaluru bands show base pay compressing from about 0.19 of the San Jose anchor at ICB1 to about 0.34 at ICB5. The India ramp is derived from those observations and scaled proportionally onto Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai and Mumbai from their published flat factors; it is a reading of the observed data rather than a bundle figure.
- 3The bundle's own city model floors the equity component at a 0.20 factor for low-cost markets, which lifts modelled offshore equity above what the pure total factor would give. This report does not apply that floor: every cell here is the anchor median times the stated factor, so offshore equity values will read lower than the bundle's own tables for Penang, Bucharest and the Indian cities.
- 4No benefit loading is applied anywhere. Total compensation is base plus target bonus plus annualized equity only, and the $174 million FY2025 401(k) employer contribution, statutory provident fund and superannuation contributions and every insurance premium are employer cost rather than pay, so they are excluded from every band and location cell.
- 5The observed ICB6 software total of $1,638,900 is not used as the anchor. It rests on a very small sample driven by stock appreciation, and the modelled $900,000 centre is used instead. Anyone benchmarking a specific ICB6 offer should treat the gap between those two figures as the real uncertainty at that level.
- 6The observed Bengaluru ICB4 total exceeds the observed ICB5 total, and the observed Taipei ICB5 total is four times the Taipei ICB4 total. Both are left visible in the evidence notes rather than smoothed away, and both are reasons the total factors for India and Taiwan carry more uncertainty than their base factors.
- 7Twenty-five of the fifty-five markets in the research bundle are omitted here, including Chandler, Herndon, Islandia, Boulder, Chicago, Colorado Springs, Yakum, Haifa, Cork, Amsterdam, Warsaw, Barcelona, Bologna, Ditzingen, Paris, Beijing, Shenzhen, Melbourne, Ottawa, Sao Paulo, Mexico City, Auckland and Dubai. The bundle itself grades several of them low confidence or partner-led, and none adds a market the retained thirty do not already represent.
- 8Named-executive bonus attainment is expressed against base salary because the proxy discloses the target as 100 percent of base. Where a target opportunity differed from base in a given year the attainment percentage would shift, and the FY2023 and FY2024 comparisons are research calculations from the proxy rather than disclosed percentages.
- 9The $356.74 reference share price and the 26 August 2026 foreign-exchange snapshot are single-day research values. Every share-count equivalent and every local-currency conversion in this report moves with them.

Recent News & Workforce Trend
Broadcom's 2026 has been an execution and integration story rather than a compensation one. No companywide salary action, pay freeze or hike percentage was announced in any reviewed source, and the two events that actually move pay are the FY2025 shift to two-year employee equity awards and the June 2026 change of chief financial officer.
The 33,000 headcount is the only workforce number Broadcom publishes, and it is company-wide. There is no city-level breakdown anywhere, so the fact that San Jose carries 62 of 91 visa filings tells you where Broadcom files, not where its people sit. The combination of 57 percent research and development and 4.1 percent voluntary attrition is the single most compensation-relevant pair of numbers in the filings: it explains both the $378,281 median employee and the retention economics behind the overlapping equity grants.
The former Alphabet controller succeeded Kirsten Spears on a $700,000 base, a 100 percent target bonus, a $1,000,000 sign-on payment, 50,000 restricted stock units vesting quarterly over four years and 50,000 target performance share units across four overlapping annual periods with a 200 percent maximum.
GAAP net income of $9.310 billion and free cash flow of $10.262 billion for the quarter ended 3 May 2026. Continued artificial-intelligence semiconductor and infrastructure software growth supports compensation capacity, but capacity is not a payout promise.
A bona fide gift with no consideration, reported on Form 4. It follows the 6 January 2026 sale of 70,000 shares for about $24.31 million and is consistent with estate rather than compensation planning.
Net income of $7.349 billion for the quarter. The sequential step up to $22.187 billion in the following quarter is the backdrop against which any FY2026 incentive funding will be judged.
Revenue of $63.9 billion and free cash flow of $26.9 billion, with the workforce at approximately 33,000 and voluntary attrition of 4.1 percent. Stock-based compensation expense for the year was $7.568 billion.
Broadcom granted staggered two-year time- and market-based restricted stock unit awards in place of the normal annual employee grants for FY2025, with vesting start dates of 15 March 2025 and 15 March 2026. It is the single most important change to employee pay structure in the period.
A front-loaded award tied to artificial-intelligence revenue whose performance period does not begin until FY2028 and which can settle at up to 300 percent of target. It is the reason the FY2025 headline reads $205.3 million and the annualized view reads $35.0 million.
Filings cite lower software labour cost and lower selling, general and administrative compensation and headcount. Reporting has described substantial legacy VMware workforce reductions, though the filings themselves do not quantify them.
Every share count, grant size and per-share price in this report is stated on a post-split basis. Older grant records and any pre-split offer comparison must be adjusted before they can be read against current figures.
