How Autodesk Pays
Grade 8–17 technical and M1–M6 management ladders, compensation across 25 cities in 14 countries, the 2022 Equity Incentive Plan (RSUs, PSUs, options) and 15%-discount ESPP, FY2026 named-executive pay and 203.5:1 pay ratio, SEC Forms 4 and H-1B wage data.
Band Hierarchy
Autodesk publishes no global grade handbook. Grade 8–17 is the employee-reported technical ladder and M1–M6 the management ladder from the public Levels.fyi title map; E1–E2 are interface-only executive categories and E3–E4 are the FY2026 proxy cohorts.

Hierarchy qualifications and legacy structures
- Autodesk does not publish a global internal architecture document. The ladder consolidates the Levels.fyi title map and reported compensation pages; direct observations are strongest for US Grade 8–15, US M1–M5 and India Grade 8–13, while Grade 16–17, M6 and most non-US city cells require modeling.
- No public evidence supports a company-wide legacy grade harmonization from a major predecessor merger. Acquired teams can retain role titles or local practices during integration, but a universal predecessor band map was not publicly disclosed, so acquisition-specific titles are not presented as global grades.
- The peer-level mapping is an approximate functional guide, not an official cross-company leveling table.
Peer-level mapping
| Band | Archetype | Peer mapping | Caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| G8 | Software Engineer 1 | Adobe/Intuit early-career SWE; PTC Software Developer I | Approximate functional mapping; peers use different scopes |
| G9 | Software Engineer 2 | SWE II / intermediate engineer | Autodesk reported median already includes meaningful equity |
| G10 | Software Engineer 3 | Mid-level SWE / senior at a smaller company | Reported sample has an unusually low bonus; do not generalize |
| G11 | Senior Software Engineer 1 | Senior SWE | US crowdsourced base median is below Grade 10 due to sample composition |
| G12 | Senior Software Engineer 2 | Senior / early staff | Role scope varies by product organization |
| G13 | Principal Engineer | Staff / principal | Strong equity and bonus step-up |
| G14 | Senior Principal Engineer / Software Architect | Senior staff / principal architect | Director-equivalent influence without mandatory people management |
| G15 | Senior Software Architect / Director / Senior Director | Distinguished engineer or director | Explicit IC/management title overlap |
| G16 | Chief Architect / Senior Director | Distinguished / senior director | Title verified; pay modeled |
| G17 | Autodesk Fellow | Fellow | Title verified; pay not publicly observed |
| M1 | Supervisor | First-line manager | Reported manager ladder |
| M2 | Associate Manager | Developing manager | Reported manager ladder |
| M3 | Manager | Engineering manager | Direct US reported medians |
| M4 | Senior Manager | Senior manager | Direct US reported medians |
| M5 | Director | Director | Reported; components are a rounded anchor around the US total |
| M6 | Senior Director | Senior director | Title observed but pay sparse |
| E1 | Vice President | Peer-company VP | Interface-only category; not an asserted Autodesk grade |
| E2 | Senior Vice President | Peer-company SVP | Interface-only category; not an asserted Autodesk grade |
| E3 | EVP / Named Executive Officer | Peer-company NEO | Only NEO and CEO compensation are SEC-verified |
| E4 | President & Chief Executive Officer | Peer-company CEO | Only NEO and CEO compensation are SEC-verified |
Critical evidence warning
Autodesk does not publish a complete employee grade handbook, a location-by-grade salary grid, office-level headcount, an attrition rate, an appraisal rating distribution, universal employee bonus targets or a promotion-hike schedule. Grade 8–17 and M1–M6 consolidate the public Levels.fyi title map and reported pay pages — a high-confidence external reconstruction, not an HR handbook. E1–E2 are interface-only categories; E3–E4 convert FY2026 proxy disclosure and must not be read as local executive pay.

Autodesk reported roughly 85 offices and about 1.2 million square feet, but publishes no headcount by city or a classification of sites as delivery, offshore or client-facing. Office profiles are functional inferences from office, careers and job-pattern material. Bangalore, the Bay Area, Portland, Boston, Montreal/Toronto/Vancouver, London/Dublin, Singapore, Shanghai and Tel Aviv show recurring product, engineering, regional or corporate activity; Sydney and Melbourne are visibly important regional customer and sales markets. Auckland and Dubai are regional-coverage schema completions rather than directory offices.

| G13 | ₹53.8L | ₹18.7L | ₹5.8L | ₹78.3L | $82.2K |
- US Grade 8–15 and M1–M5 medians are Levels.fyi national observations; the Grade 11 base median is below Grade 10 and Grade 10's bonus is unusually small — crowd-sourced medians, not band boundaries.
- M5 components are a rounded planning anchor around the reported US total; the San Francisco Bay Area page separately reported about $359,001 total, $229,667 base, $82,667 stock and $46,667 bonus. M6 has a public title but insufficient direct observations.
- Levels.fyi reported an India software-engineer median of about ₹43.9L and a Grade 8–13 range of roughly ₹19.6L to ₹78.3L; the Bangalore/Pune split is not disclosed, so Pune cells are modeled at 95% of the India anchor.
Australia — role evidence, not a verified grade map (Glassdoor)
| Role | Reported AUD | Approx. USD | Caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Software Engineer | A$70K–A$104K | $50K–$74K | Employee-reported; small sample |
| Consultant | A$100K–A$130K | $72K–$93K | Employee-reported |
| Project Manager | A$140K–A$141K | $100K–$101K | Very small sample |
| Customer Success Specialist | A$125K–A$170K | $90K–$122K | Employee-reported |
| Account Executive | A$144K–A$280K | $103K–$201K | Sales mix; commission can dominate |
| Sales | A$113K–A$288K | $81K–$206K | Role mix and variable pay |
| Partner Sales | A$160K–A$375K | $115K–$269K | Likely OTE, not base-only |
Glassdoor Australia evidence is sales-heavy and too sparse to assign roles cleanly to Grade 8–17 or M1–M6, so Sydney and Melbourne cells are modeled and calibrated so common engineering and customer roles fall within the observed role ranges where possible.

Official Autodesk postings state that compensation may also include annual cash bonuses, commissions, stock grants and benefits, so a posted base range is not total compensation and often spans several US geographic pay zones. Poland is not in the location selector.
Review cycle, market corrections and attrition
Annual compensation review month, off-cycle market corrections, city headcount and the employee attrition rate are not publicly disclosed in the FY2026 10-K or proxy. Location factors quantify observed and modeled pay differences; they do not establish an Autodesk transfer, expatriate or onshore/offshore policy.
Data-model rules
- 1The selected location controls employee-band values; executive SEC compensation stays a global disclosure converted into local currency only for comparison.
- 2Direct observed values override location factors; modeled medians are US anchors multiplied by the city calibration factor and the FX rate.
- 3Low/high planning values are ±15% around the median; equity values are ±25%.
- 4Benefits are not monetized into total compensation because the public record is inconsistent across countries; employer PF, gratuity and superannuation are not added to India or Australia totals.
- 5Sales OTE and commission plans are treated separately from engineering bonus targets.
- 6The FX table is a single-date conversion layer and ignores payroll-date FX, tax, purchasing power, benefits valuation and hedging. Not publicly disclosed is preferred over fabricated precision.
Variable Pay & Annual Cash Incentive
Only the Executive Incentive Plan targets and FY2026 named-executive outcomes are filed. Grade and M-band targets are a planning model informed by reported offers — Autodesk states that pay can include annual cash bonuses and sales commissions but publishes no universal bonus-target grid.

FY2026 executive incentive targets — percent of salary
FY2026 named-executive outcomes
| Executive | Target | Paid | Attainment |

| Andrew Anagnost | $1,560,000 | $1,717,560 | 110.1% |
| Janesh Moorjani | $585,000 | $644,085 | 110.1% |

| Ruth Ann Keene | $477,000 | $525,702 | 110.3% |
The compensation committee retained negative discretion. Attainment ratios are disclosed salary × target percentage versus disclosed non-equity incentive compensation; they do not reveal the employee-wide AIP payout. FY2025 PSU achievement for disclosed performance tranches ranged about 95%–108%, an equity-performance outcome rather than a cash-bonus payout.
Employee payout timing and history
Autodesk states that compensation can include annual cash bonuses and sales commissions but publishes no universal employee bonus-target grid; the percentages above are a planning model informed by reported offers. Employee-wide payout cadence and the last two to three years of AIP payout percentages are not publicly disclosed; executive cash incentives are disclosed annually in the proxy and PSU outcomes in aggregate/NEO tables.
Sales and special incentives
Sales roles can be governed by commission/OTE plans materially different from engineering bonus targets — Australian account-executive and partner-sales pay shows a large variable component. Autodesk does not publish a universal commission curve, quota crediting rule, accelerators or recent attainment distribution.
Equity — RSUs, PSUs, Options & ESPP
Autodesk's program is a US public-company omnibus plan plus a broad-based ESPP, not a classic private-company ESOP. Employee-facing awards are commonly RSUs, executives receive PSUs, and the plan also authorizes options, restricted stock and other awards.
- The amended 2022 plan states a maximum 43,750,000-share reserve subject to adjustments and counting rules; full-value awards generally reduce the reserve at 2.08 shares per share issued.
- The FY2026 10-K describes roughly 44 million shares reserved, about 22 million shares subject to awards granted and approximately 24 million shares available at 31 January 2026. Forfeitures, prior-plan roll-ins and the 2.08 counting ratio make a simple granted ÷ reserve utilization percentage misleading.
- The 10-K references a March 2032 plan expiration in one section while the amended legal plan states April 2035. The page flags the inconsistency rather than silently reconciling it.
FY2026 aggregate grant activity — 31 January 2026
Vesting — common reported employee schedule
The 10-K says RSUs generally vest over one to four years. Employee-reported Levels.fyi pages most commonly show a three-year schedule, usually one-third per year, with some records showing annual year-one vesting followed by quarterly vesting; a fourth year is permitted by the filing but is not universal. Executive FY2026 PSUs use a three-year performance period.
Eligibility by hierarchy level
- The FY2026 filing says employees are eligible to participate in long-term plans, but eligibility is not the same as receiving a grant: RSU, PSU, option and other awards remain discretionary under the 2022 Equity Incentive Plan.
- Grade 8–15 and M1–M5 annual values are annualized planning values from reported packages; Grade 16–17, M6, E1 and E2 are modeled. Plan-eligible under the 2022 Equity Incentive Plan; actual grant, value and refresh cadence are discretionary and controlled by the grant notice.
- E3–E4 values are proxy-disclosed grant-date stock awards, shown as a planning range. New-hire awards can cover multiple years, refresh grants can overlap, share counts change with the grant-date price, and executive values are accounting figures rather than realized proceeds.
- Reported India Grade 8–13 packages contain annualized stock, unlike employers that reserve equity for senior bands only; the values remain sample-based.

Executive Compensation — FY2026
FY2026 Summary Compensation Table values from the proxy filed 24 April 2026 are grant-date accounting values, not cash received. Andrew Anagnost's cash-incentive target was 150% of salary; his long-term award was 61,804 PSUs plus 41,203 RSUs.
Reading the package
More than 90% of Andrew Anagnost's FY2026 summary compensation came from stock-award accounting value, creating large year-to-year swings unrelated to salary. His cash incentive target was 150% of salary ($1.560M) against $1.718M paid, about 110.1% attainment.
Autodesk's formal peer group comprised Adobe, Akamai, ANSYS, Block, Cadence, DocuSign, Electronic Arts, Fortinet, Gen Digital, Intuit, NetApp, Palo Alto Networks, PTC, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Synopsys and Workday. The four-company comparison is illustrative, not a compensation-committee percentile calculation.
Named Executive Officers & Board
FY2026 Summary Compensation Table totals for the four named executive officers, plus the non-employee director framework. Non-CEO NEOs ranged from $5.79M to $10.63M, each with stock awards above 80% of the total.
The Summary Compensation Table is an accounting disclosure: stock-award values are grant-date fair value, not cash realized, current vested value or sale proceeds. Rebecca Pearce (EVP, Chief People Officer) appears in the FY2026 target-equity and Form 4 disclosures with a $4.25M target equity award.
Board compensation framework — FY2026
| Element | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Annual cash retainer | $75,000 | FY2026 policy |
| Annual RSU grant | $250,000 | FY2026 policy |
| Independent board chair additional retainer | $75,000 | FY2026 policy |
| Committee chair/member retainers | $10,000–$25,000 | Varies by committee and role |
| Prospective policy, 2026 annual meeting | $300,000 RSU | Plus a $100,000 chair increment, disclosed in the proxy |
Directors could elect to receive certain cash retainers in RSUs at $1.20 of stock value for each $1.00 of foregone cash, subject to the proxy terms. Individual director totals varied with service period, committee roles and election choices.
Regional heads and other officers
The proxy discloses named executive officers only. Regional heads, product-group leaders and other functional executives have public titles, but their individual compensation is Not publicly disclosed.
Insider Trades — SEC Forms 3/4/5
Autodesk is Nasdaq-listed, so SEC Forms 3/4/5 — not BSE/NSE or SEBI SAST filings — are the insider source. Award and withholding rows are vesting or settlement events; only the Rule 10b5-1 sale is a discretionary open-market disposition.

Benefits & Perks
US benefits are verified on Autodesk's official portal — 401(k) match, ESPP, sabbatical, parental leave, medical carriers. Outside the US the record is mostly statutory baselines and employee reports; statutory minimums are labeled separately and are not Autodesk enhancements.
India
- Retirement — Provident Fund. Statutory employee and employer contributions are generally 12% of covered basic wages/DA, subject to EPF rules, wage ceilings and employer policy. [verified statutory]
- Retirement — Gratuity. Statutory eligibility and formula apply under Indian law; Autodesk-specific enhanced terms were not publicly disclosed. [statutory; enhancement not disclosed]
- Health — Health / life insurance. Employee reviews report health, life and family coverage, but insurer, sum insured and dependent terms were not verified publicly. [reported]
- Leave — Maternity leave. Indian statutory framework can provide 26 weeks for eligible employees in covered circumstances; Autodesk enhancement not publicly disclosed. [statutory baseline]
- Leave — Paternity / caregiver leave. Employee reports indicate availability, but a verified India duration was not found. [reported / not disclosed]
- Flexibility — PTO / hybrid work. Employee reports and Autodesk's global flexible-work positioning indicate paid leave and hybrid/remote arrangements; exact India days and team attendance rules are not public. [reported]
- Allowances — Food, cab, NPS, phone/internet. Not publicly disclosed as universal India benefits. [not publicly disclosed]
Global programs
- Flexibility — Flexible work. Autodesk presents itself as hybrid-first/flexible; implementation varies by role, location and team. [verified general]
- Learning — Learning and tuition. Employee benefit sources report learning/development and tuition reimbursement, but limits differ and are not globally published. [reported]
- Wellbeing — EAP / mental health. Official US portal provides mental-health resources; global local-provider coverage should be verified. [verified / local varies]
- Mobility — Internal mobility. Careers material supports global roles and mobility, but no universal rotation entitlement is published. [verified general]
- Community — Volunteer / donation support. Employee-reported sources identify volunteer time and donation matching; current local terms require verification. [reported]
- Time off — Sabbatical. Verified for eligible US employees; do not assume the same program in every country. [verified US only]
Benefit fields not publicly quantified
The reviewed sources did not disclose India insurer or sum insured, paternity duration, India leave days, food/cab/NPS/phone allowances, Australian private-health contribution or paid parental enhancement, UK enhanced holiday count, European harmonized benefit values, or non-US sabbatical availability. Statutory minimums are labeled separately and are not Autodesk enhancements.
Performance Review & Pay Progression
Autodesk's fiscal year ends 31 January, but the employee rating scale, appraisal calendar, calibration, increment matrix and promotion hikes are not publicly disclosed. The promotion timeline is a modeled career-planning interval, not Autodesk policy.

Intervals are labor-market planning assumptions, not Autodesk policy. Advancement at senior IC and executive levels depends on role availability, enterprise scope and sustained impact; tenure alone does not create promotion eligibility. Do not hard-code a 1–5 rating scale.
Pay progression evidence
Crowdsourced reviews sometimes describe slower internal salary growth or less-clear promotion paths, but the comments are subjective and cannot establish company-wide policy. No robust public dataset quantifies the lateral-hire premium versus internal promotees at Autodesk.

Reading the data correctly
- Sources use different year definitions, deduplication and case categories; petition counts can represent LCAs, workers, initial approvals, transfers or renewals, so source-specific counts are preserved rather than merged.
- City 25th/75th percentiles are rounded reconstruction values where a consistent percentile table was not available; medians and counts are the stronger fields.
- LCA wages are base/proffered wages that exclude bonus and equity and often reflect the required wage for a specific worksite/title.
- Near-100% LCA certification and the 85/7 petition outcome measure different process stages and populations; neither is Autodesk's definitive USCIS approval rate.
Key Nuances & Insights
The 10-K's broad long-term-plan eligibility statement should not be converted into a claim that every employee receives RSUs. Grant selection, value and refresh cadence remain discretionary.
Grade 15–16 includes Director/Senior Director wording, so job title is not a reliable substitute for track, scope or compensation level.
Crowdsourced packages frequently show three-year RSUs, while the filing allows one-to-four-year vesting and the grant notice controls.
Reported India Grade 8–13 packages contain annualized stock, unlike employers that reserve equity for only senior bands. Values are still sample-based.
Public Australia salary pages contain many account, sales and customer roles. Engineering grade estimates require more modeling than India or the US.
More than 90% of FY2026 CEO summary compensation came from stock-award accounting value, creating large year-to-year swings unrelated to salary.
Two large workforce actions in 2025 and 2026 can alter role mix, headcount, hiring ranges and internal mobility without a publicly announced salary freeze.
Modeled equivalent total compensation is roughly 0.22–0.23× San Francisco in India, 0.64–0.68× in Australia, 0.70–0.80× in Canada and 0.56–0.70× across selected UK/EU locations before tax and purchasing-power adjustments.
LCA data exclude bonus and equity and often reflect the required wage for a specific worksite/title, so they should not replace total-compensation benchmarks.
Full-value award counting, forfeitures and legacy share mechanics mean the disclosed available reserve is more reliable than a simplistic grant-count ratio.
Anecdotes suggest negotiated new-hire packages may differ, but there is no representative public dataset for Autodesk.
Autodesk discusses workforce and inclusion programs, but country-by-grade adjusted pay-gap statistics were not found in the reviewed filings.
Research control
Autodesk's public evidence is unusually strong for US executive pay, equity-plan mechanics, broad US benefits, the technical/manager title ladder and selected US/India engineering levels. It is materially weaker for city-by-grade ranges outside North America and India, employee-wide variable pay, performance management, attrition and local benefit values. Verified filings drive executive and equity facts, reported datasets anchor observed levels, and every extrapolated location cell is marked modeled.
Evidence classification
| Label | Meaning | Examples and permitted use |
|---|---|---|
| Verified | Autodesk filing, official benefit page, government rule or official job posting | CEO pay, 401(k), ESPP, restructuring, statutory super — disclosed fact for the stated date and population |
| Reported | Employee-submitted compensation, H-1B LCA or third-party salary record | Levels.fyi medians, Glassdoor Australia, H-1B wages — a benchmark, not an Autodesk promise or population statistic |
| Modeled | Derived from reported anchor levels, local FX and city calibration factors | Most city-by-grade ranges — planning estimate only; validate against a live requisition or offer |
| Not publicly disclosed | No reliable public evidence found | Attrition, rating curve, salary-review month — do not infer a company policy |

Known gaps and diligence before relying on a cell
- 1Obtain an Autodesk offer letter or recruiter confirmation for every grade/location cell shown as modeled.
- 2Confirm whether local salary quotations include statutory employer costs such as Australian superannuation or Indian PF/gratuity.
- 3Confirm country-specific RSU eligibility, grant currency, vesting cadence, tax withholding and retirement treatment.
- 4Confirm the actual annual review calendar, performance labels, calibration method and promotion-increase guidance.
- 5Refresh FX and the Autodesk share price on the page's update date.
- 6Reconcile the plan-expiration wording between the 10-K and the amended equity-plan exhibit with counsel or investor relations.
- 7Validate H-1B city percentiles from raw LCA records before using them for compliance or offer-setting.
